DJ FUNKLOR has been using music as a Healing, educational, and liberating tool since he
Began DJing in 1990. Since that time he has played all the premier venues in his birthplace, The Bay Area and has blessed stages in New York, Maui, Greece, Washington D.C. , The Netherlands, Las Vegas, Paris, Boston and one of his crowning acheivments playing at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
In 1998 he was honored to join the literary arts Organization Youth Speaks and has been their resident DJ, and music consultant since. During this residency he has performed in front of thousands of avid spoken word audiences and has provided musical backdrops for such luminaries as Saul Williams, Tallam Acey, Ursula Rucker, Asha Bandalee, Danny Hoch, Beau Sea, Ishle Park and countless others. All of this during his partnership with The Living Word Organization's founder and award winning performer Marc Bamuthi Joseph, as DJ for the highly successful poetry event Second Sundays in San Francisco from 2000 - 2004.
He has also taught in many schools and community centers teaching and mentoring youths on the art of Djing, Hip Hop History and music appreciation classes for Jazz & Reggae music. Youth outreach, education and the building of community continues to be a main focus In his career.
In 1999 he was asked by musician & social activist Michael Franti to join him in the studio assisting In the creation of his groundbreaking album Stay Human & the life changing experience of working in the studio with Sly & Robbie to produce Everyone Deserves Music in 2003. This relationship continued with tours DJing in support for many Michael Franti & Spearhead gigs. This included being the Main Stage DJ for 3 years in Golden Gate Park for 20,000 Plus fans at Michaels Power To The Peaceful Festival.
One of his other passions is Music Supervision, which he has done for Theatre, Dance, Visual Art & Multi Media Performances & Presentations. He also is one of the in house Music Supervisors for Identity Studios L.A. (formally Shock Wave Pictures) his credits include commercial spots for Bill Graham Presents as well as various Non Profit and corporate clients. He scored his first full-length documentary feature, Poetic License which gained national broadcast on PBS in 2000.
