About Me
Maja K grew up in Stockholm, Sweden where she spent her early childhood years singing earnestly to rocks, trees and bus windows. In time she developed the habit of unexpectedly bursting into song at the dinner table which was not entirely popular with her mother. As the years passed however she grew into a reasonably well adjusted young woman who would sing in appropriate settings for live human beings (although she secretly maintained her fondness for serenading inanimate objects). She studied music extensively, first in her native Sweden and later in Los Angeles and New York where she got herself a degree that may or may not one day be of use for something. Over the years she has sung everything from opera and musical theater to rock/pop covers and lots and lots of jazz, before focusing on her own brand of soulful, sophisticated pop with a bit of a jazzy flavor. She discovered the joy/agony of writing songs which has given her a solid reason to spend hours and hours on her couch turning over some potentially interesting idea in her head. From her songs you might get the idea that Maja K is a melancholy character with one messed-up relationship after another. However, she claims this is not true! She is quite happy, thank-you-very-much, but just can’t figure out how to transfer this joy of life into her music. Not that it is something she pursues as she never really much enjoyed happy songs herself. OK, so she has a bit of a melancholy streak, a vivid imagination and friends who supply her with juicy subject matters as well as those her own life offers. That’s where her songs come from.
Maja K loves to perform these songs live. She gets all passionate and intense and insists on grabbing your attention. Check her out!Buy a CD at www.cdbaby.com/cd/majak3And hey! Maybe you want to do some yoga too.
