BUBBA HERNANDEZ DANCING EN FUEGO:
After the two-time Grammy Award winner left his post as bassist for Brave Combo and launched his own musical mission, he immediately picked up another Grammy nod – this time, for his 2007 solo debut, Polka Freak Out. On the heels of PFO, Hernandez set his cinnamon-on-honey baritone vocals to the beat of a conga drum and the wail of Latin passion.
Thematically, Dancing En Fuego loosely follows a love cycle from top to bottom and back again. These songs will have fans of Los Lobos to Ozomatli and Santana grooving or kissing or both, giving both Hispanic and non-Hispanic listeners something to grab hold of.
The personnel on Dancing En Fuego range from stellar LA session funk musicians, to San Antonio’s top Chicano and Mexican players, to some of Dallas’ finest. Bubba Hernandez’ Dancing En Fuego is all at once brilliantly sweet, rockin’ and picante.
Bubba Hernandez performs his music from Dancing En Fuego on the road as BUBBA HERNANDEZ y Los Super Vatos.

What the critics are saying:
“Famed and awarded for decades spent with the band Brave Combo, Bubba is a cornucopia of various music styles, and continues to blend these styles, and languages, into his solo albums.†- Adrian Fallwell, NONzine
“Although not an original member of Brave Combo, Hernandez helped define the band's best work. He was not only a rock-solid bassist and a key songwriting contributor, he was also their most soulful vocalist.†- Gilbert Garcia, San Antonio Current
“What Dancing en Fuego delivers is Hernandez’s solid vocals. He’s especially great on “Avisame,†arching from low growls to heart-wrenching, rock & roll-style howls with shocking ease.†- Belinda Acosta, Austin Chronicle
“Hernandez lives to have fun, but En Fuego is the proof in the proverbial pudding-eating. Hernandez is a Grammy-level musician, and, boy, can he sing.†- Lucinda Breeding, Denton Record Chronicle
"a sweet adaptable tenor than can break hearts" - John Morthland, No Depression
POLKA FREAK OUT: BUBBA HERNANDEZ AND ALEX MEIXNER:
When Grammy award winner Bubba Hernandez first heard Alex Meixner he wondered, "What would this guy sound like on a Tex-Mex tuned accordion with some Tejano players?"
The two tested this idea and quickly saw what was possible on many cultural fronts. Their unique project combines the illustrious wizardry of master accordionist Alex Meixner with the solid, rockin’ bass grooves and rich booming baritone vocals of Bubba Hernandez. Together they combine elements of polka traditions from around the world including, but not limited to, Slovenian, Austrian, Polish, Mariachi, and Serbian styles; on top of a Tex-Mex rhythm section and enveloped in a pop/rock aesthetic to produce a blend that is both powerfully energetic and remarkably beautiful. A blending that is familiar, but different: like two old cousins meeting for the first time, and the glorious party that ensues.

RECUERDOS MUSICA PARA PIANO por CENOBIO HERNANDEZOn this cd you will find waltzes, polkas, a tango and a shottische. These solo piano pieces have a Mexican semi-classical with just a hint of ragtime flavor to them; the kind of music one might find in a silent movie.Recuerdos is a labor of love dedicated to my grandfather, Cenobio Hernández, who was the composer of the music on the album. This music from another time is a collection of Mexican semi-classical piano pieces with a soundtrack quality and hint of ragtime stride. The songs include waltzes, polkas, a danza, and a tango.Born in 1863 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Cenobio Hernández was a classical musician and arranger, who played cello, bass, and bajo sexto. He was "discovered" near the end of the Mexican Revolution by a symphony musician who insisted that he move his family to San Antonio, Texas, where there was more work for musicians of his caliber. During the 20's, he played for the silent movies in the Palace Theatre Symphony Orchestra as well as in the Majestic and Empire Theatres in San Antonio. He wrote the majority of his music during the 40's, and he died at the age of 87, in 1950.Recuerdos is a reminiscence of his years in the silent movies. The pieces are a reflection of the drama that unfolded in his life, and they tell stories all their own.So, close your eyes, and listen to the heart and soul of this humble musician, composer, and teacher, and watch the movies that unfold in the theatre of your imagination.-Ricky HernándezLabel Contact: Moon Zero Bird Records P.O.
