About Me
The name of the band „KOYAANISQATSY“ comes from the language of the Hopi-Indians and means as much as „Crazy Life“, “Riot lifeâ€, „Out Of Balance“, “A state that has to be changedâ€.
"La forêt de Le Fay" is an orchestral composition by Markus Glanz the guitar player of KOYAANISQATSY. The latest version of this song have been finished and mastered in March 2009. The song is dedicated to gaia also known in the ancient times by the nordic and celtic folks as mother earth.
My major inspirtation for this song was Ynis Witrin better known as AVALON or Ynis Avallach. AVALON is the heart chakra of our earth in Glastonbury (England).
The final section of this song (last 2 minutes) is a variation of "MARS THE BRINGER OF WAR" by the famous English composer Gustav Holst. In the next weeks it will be compleded with several electric guitar passages.

Wow, Where do i start, Ever since i heard Germany's Koyaanisqatsy on Progulus radio about 4 years ago i was under their spell. I had never heard anything quite like this before and i had to get myself a copy ASAP. Their music is wondrous oblivion, classical cinematic, progressive, they are so bombastic and epic like Ben Hur and Braveheart mixed into one.
The musicianship is truly amazing and Wolfgang Schneider on piano is a modern day genius as is Markus Glanz on guitar. The whole album creates such fullness as if you were at an opera. The album opens with Overture 3030, a beautiful classical intro. Then the album gets more bombastic with the amazing Memoria, awesome drumming on this track by Stefan Petzold, this song is so uplifting that you get the feeling there is 10 people in Koyaanisqatsy, i suppose the amazing keyboards give that effect. Way of Thoughts is the 3rd track and probably the heaviest, magnificent guitarwork here by Markus as well as great drumming.
Then it's on to The Perfect Lie, this song starts of with a sort of chanting before becoming heavier. The song reminds me of the Italian prog band Goblin from the Dario Argento movies and Markus plays with so much feeling here. Then it's on to my favourite track, Cosmic Space Drive. I think this song sums up Koyaanisqatsy, this has everthing, passion, power, feeling, intensity. There is one moment in the song that reminds me of Mel Gibsons portrayal of William Wallace in Braveheart where he gets betrayed by Robert The Bruce and can't quite believe what is happening to him. This is tears to the eyes stuff indeed!!
Then its on to the final track, Golden Dawn, 18 minutes of pure brilliance. To compare Koyaanisqatsy to other bands is hard, think Beethoven, Wagner, Devil Doll, Goblin and great cinematic masterpieces. This is truly the greatest instrumental prog album ever made, you will have never heard anything like it before, i promise!! A true epic cinematic masterpiece.

Review Koyaanisqatsy ( From the yearning to burst the perpetual circle) on musicbuymail.eu
2007, this much sought after hidden gem is finally available!
KOYAANISQATSY is a slick, professional, and bombastic instrumental progressive metal band that uses the unique approach of fusing their compositions with classical influences from the romantic period. Their music is a mesmerizing balance of lush, subtle passages and hard-hitting virtuosity that is both intelligent and emotional. KOYAANISQATSY is a hidden gem and a big time winner!
Even the british kultrock band URIAH HEEP used the song “Overture 3030†as their opening song on their "Unplugged Tour 2006" and the album was already a top 10 favourite request on progulus.com and their songs are regularly graded an ‘A’ (4.5+ out of 5) in our polls. The 6 songs on the debut album "From the yearning to burst the perpetual circle" deliver an awesome journey through unrestrained dynamic, power, melodies and emotions.

BIO
The name of the band „KOYAANISQATSY“ comes from the language of the Hopi-Indians and means as much as „Crazy Life“, “Riot lifeâ€, „Out Of Balance“, “A state that has to be changedâ€.
1994 - after having taken a break from music for 2 years - guitar player Markus Glanz (ex-BRAINSTORM, ex-VAIN VISION) started to look for suitable musicians for a new project, which should be placed musically somewhere between classical music, soundtracks and Heavy Metal.
After an extensive search he finally found the ideal partner in drummer Stefan Petzoldt (ex-DREAMSCAPE). Regarding musical ideas he had similar visions and was also inspired by the same bands and composers. Right after the very first jam session it became clear that this was the beginning of a joint musical journey.
The first songs for this new project saw the light of day in a rehearsal room in Munich where Markus and Stefan began to create a story to be told and arranged the song material accordingly.
They had the vision to create a musical fairytale and to make it come alive with a combination of a story and pictures.
Markus recorded the first passages with a keyboard and Stefan contributed the beats and breaks with a drum computer.
In 1995 the virtuoso keyboarder and pianist Wolfgang Schneider, winner of the German MIDI AWARD for compositions in 1991, joined them. Wolfgang’s original background is the world of classical music, but ever since joining KOYAANISQATSY he has refined their music with his own musical background and his outreaching symphonical sounds and arrangements.
At that time the decision was made to name the band „KOYAANISQATSY“, which is also the title of a popular cult documentary film (written with an „i“ instead of „y“ at the end - Koyaanisqatsi).

Piece by piece complex compositions were created which included, in parts, 70’s orchestra instrumentation. The band's direction shifted more and more towards classical, romantic music – although the powerful drums and the staccato guitars still dominate the music of KOYAANISQATSY, so it is still some form of Heavy Metal. One year later bass player Michael Scherz joined KOYAANISQATSY and completed the line-up.
The band remained unsuccessful in search of a singing support, so the debut CD was realized as a pure instrumental album in the year 2000.The six tracks on the debut (divided into seven more pieces) “From the yearning to burst the perpetual circleâ€, are living through a non-restrained dynamic and an orgasmic sound experience of melodies and tempers. The last track of the album, “Golden Dawnâ€, is at almost 18 minutes, the band’s longest and probably also the most mature track to date.
