SoundLounge is a music co-operative - a network of independent artists working collaboratively to organise gigs, tours, release albums and promotion.
Major principle behind SoundLounge is – OPEN SOURCE. Basically, music is there for everyone, not just the profit of a few. All SoundLounge Records releases will use Creative Commons Licensing (anyone is free to download, upload, copy or broadcast material as long as no money has been made and the original artist is credited).
The copyright myth = on average, artists on major record labels make between $1 and $2 per CD sold! Artists make most of their money from live shows and merchandise. Word of mouth is the best way to get something out there. What better recommendation of a band, than if someone recommends and gives you a copy of their CD?!
Collective consciousness…Just because music is free to download, doesn’t mean people stop buying albums. The music industry right now = major labels are becoming obsolete to the needs of most artists. SO, SoundLounge is creating space for creative people to create and release their art as part of a co-operative – the next step in the “Do It Yourself†revolution!
Artists can sign up to become members, as can anyone involved at any level. Freedom to share music is there - when someone buys a SoundLounge Records release the musicians get a higher percentage from sales. Any profits made by the co-op will go back into expanding/developing –workshops and community involvement.
Where we’re at: This is a grass-roots project, with artists and community mindedness at its core – we’re starting from the very bottom.
Now – putting on gigs to raise funds to get things going.
Next – Organising more events and start to release albums from artists involved, as well as organise tours and hold our own festival.
