Hailing from the wicked streets of Detroit, Michigan, Rico took a great interest in the game of hip hop at the tender age of 10 when a family friend snuck him into a Eric B and Rakim concert. He knew from that very night what he wanted to do with his life. He went home that very night and wrote his own version of "paid in full". He went on to master the skills of writing and began rhyming over beats at his elementary school much to his teachers dismay. In 1996 Rico signed onto Renaissance records, an independent label ran by his cousin, which led to the song "on point" in which he started with the infamous phrase "mo serves with the verbs".
