Producto B

Producto B started as Benefit of the Doubt in 2002, when cousins Prieto (Juan Magaña) and Güero (Moises) were introduced to playing music by their childhood friend Wang (Juan Ortega). To play as a band, Prieto decided to buy a drum kit and Güero picked up the bass, establishing a strong rythm section. Wang had been playing music for the majority of his life, thanks to his family's influence.The trio began to jam together, covering songs from their favorite bands/artists. After about one year and a half, they began to play parties and local gigs, alongside their childhood friends Cruda (then Leche Cruda). From this, a strong bond began between the two groups.For various reasons, the band was put on hold from January 2005 until May 2006. Within that time, each member matured as a musician. By late 2006, Prieto had built a strong musical relationship with Chuy (having played for a year with him in Cruda). As Benefit of the Doubt regrouped, Chuy was added to the lineup, making it a four-piece. A genre was not defined for the band, it now had more influences to feed from and untamed creativity. This called for a change, since all of the band's lyrics was written in spanish. The name of the band had to change, but not its principals. Producto B was chosen as a name for the band because the band itself is a biproduct of its environment, and still honors The Benefit of the Doubt.Prieto delivers a complete range of rythms. Güero adds sonic funk with defined bass lines. Wang and Chuy trade rythm and leads, jumping from latin, reggae and rock styles. Wang's soulful lyrics complete the sound with mariachi-caliber vocals, backed up by Chuy. More than music, Producto B is an experience.
