Malik "DJ Benephit" BioWhat up World? I was originally born in Little Rock, Ark…when you say Little Rock most people think of President Bill Clinton, Derek Fisher, Scottie Pippen, or Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks. But when you meet a cat from the L-Rock, its one thing that you can’t say and that’s most cats from L-Rock ain’t real. From Dawn to Dusk we keeps and have always kept it real!
My first introduction to DJ’ing came when a homeboi of mine name Greg took me to this cats house name DJ Magic Mike. I was blown away when I seen Magic Mike spinning the 1’s & 2’s. I knew at that point that I wanted to be a “DeeJayâ€. He had all the old school hits. I just didn’t know when my dream would come to fruition.
My DJ’ing experience started in Hawaii in 1992. I started booking picnics in the park. The weather was always on point and that was the one thing that I loved about Hawaii. Someone was always throwing a picnic in the park and you talking about the jump off, that was the real jump off. The Chicks use to wear their short shorts and cats would be representing to the fullest. I continued rocking the spot whenever someone booked me. I started picking up wedding gigs and social events for children and adults. From there I started booking gigs at the local clubs. My first club gig was Club Rene’s and from there, I added Club Tradewinds, Club Paradise, Club Mixx and World Bar in Waikiki to the the Roster.
I arrived in Atl in 1998 and took a break from “DJ’ing†to focus on the productions side of my music. While focusing on my productions, me and two other cats started a rap crew called D.E. We started performing at various clubs in Atlanta. While hustling our demo’s, we came close to securing an Indy Deal, but the deal fell through the cracks due to contract differences. After that…D.E. split and went their separate ways and I continued focusing on my productions. In 2004, I attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, looking to expend my productions knowledge. I Graduated from there and still didn’t know what direction I wanted to go in, so I continued to chill and mediate on the direction that I wanted to go in.
I continued going to the clubs off and on to keep the Spirit of DeeJaying flowing through my blood. So, while I was still in my Deejaying hiatus, I kept hearing about this digital form of Deejaying called Serato Scratch and I'm like, yo…I can’t do no digital DJ’ing. So, one night I’m at the club and a fellow DJ is spinning and he shows me how the Serato works and I’m back to the point when I was a teenager when I seen DJ Magic Mike spinnin. I’m blown away again and I’m like…ok, it’s digital but it’s still real DJ’ing. So I immediately go and purchase my Serato along with the ext. hard drive and laptop and “DJ Benephit†is Born again!!! I’m very modest when it comes to talking about DJ’ing, but ya boi “DJ Benephit†has Real SKillz when it comes to spinnin the 1’s & 2’s. So, If anyone in the party world needs a DJ…Please, feel free to holla at ya Boi “DJ Benephitâ€!Malik “DJ Benephit†(404) 931-7861
