Ceschi & Myka 9 - Fallen Famous Europe Tour 2009
In Fall 2009 the Berlin based record label Equinox Records will proceed the successful story of its first European Tour in 2007. This time, the legendary Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship and Ceschi will be headliners of this years line-up. Furthermore, 2econd Class Citizen from the UK and DJ Scientist, two more great artists are completing the tour line-up respectively.
Myka 9 (USA / Freestyle Fellowship / Fake Four Inc)
Myka 9 holds a distinctive place in hip-hop history. As a teenager, he got his start ghost writing lyrics for acts such as NWA and The Posse and collaborating with major label acts such as The Wailers and Carmen Carter. In 1991, his melodic rap style and improvisational lyrical talents were demonstrated on Freestyle Fellowship's debut album "To Whom It May Concern". As one of the founders of Freestyle Fellowship, Myka shared rapping duties with Aceyalone, Self Jupiter and PEACE. By 1993 the "Fellowship" was signed to 4th and B'way (the hip hop subsidiary of Island Records) and released their landmark album "Innercity Griots." Although the Fellowship quietly disbanded after 2002's "Temptations" all the members continue to work on a variety of solo and group projects with and without each other.
Myka 9 - Good Old Smokey (My Kanine)
His brandnew album called “1969†(released January 2009 on Ceschi’s label Fake Four Inc.) is a hip-hop release infused with soul, funk, and even disco. Not since 1993's "Park Bench People", a classic joint detailing Myka's own struggle with homelessness, has this LA emcee created such personal and poignant album. 1969, the year of Myka's birth, is a nostalgic trip filled with references to the culture and sounds of Motown, hippies, psychedelics, choppers and Cadillacs - things that surrounded him throughout his early childhood. Guest appearances on 1969 include his Project Blowed comrades Aceyalone, Busdriver, and Awol One.
Myka says of his inspiration to get back into the studio recently: “Maybe it has something to do with being older and wiser. I got a lot of ideas. I feel it’s time to share these concepts with others.â€
Ceschi (USA / Anonymous Inc. / Equinox / Fake Four)
"Words could not credit the talents of Ceschi, whether it's rapping, singing, or composing" (Erasoul.com)
Ceschi (pro-nounced Chess-Key) is one of the most unique and best live performers today. Being able to rap, sing, play the guitar, threaten the keys of his casio while simultaneously making beats with his feet on drum pads, he ignites every crowd with ease. Whether it's a big stage or a small pub, you can always count on Ceschi to go all out, resulting in an emotional and exciting, yet unconventional mixture of a classic Hip-Hop show (being backed by DJ Scientist on turntables) and his accoustic performances.
Ceschi with feat. Noah23 "Scream"
Even though Ceschi constantly performs in the US with better known artists he still is quite unknown in Europe. Some may know him for his experimental post-psych-rock-hop-jazz-fusion outfit Anonymous Inc., a group formed by Ceschi and his brother David in 1994 that came into recognition in 2001 because of genre bending collaborations with underground hip hop rule breakers such as Circus (of Shape Shifters), Dose and Sole (of Anticon).
Others may know Ceschi as a member of the now defunct Toca, a Los Angeles based group whose lineup included Xololanxinxo (Of Mexican Descent) and longtime Shape Shifters collaborator Tommy V - Toca was known for a standout debut appearance on 2005's "Project Blowed 10 year anniversary album" and for a critically applauded album of genre bending pop fusion featuring collaborations with some of LA's finest rappers including Aceyalone, Pigeon John, Busdriver,Ellay Khule and more.
On top of all of this, Ceschi has a promising solo career jump started by the 2004 Beyond Space Entertainment release of "Fake Flowers", an album that some consider to be a "rare accomplishment in hip hop" (ugsmag.com) and "one of the most beautiful releases of [2004]" (movemusics.com). On his 2006 release, "They Hate Francisco False", Ramos merged Beatles-esque melodies over crunk drums, heartfelt hip hop, folk ditties, unpretentious poetry and overall honesty to create what some consider to be a timeless morsel of an album. The decidedly genre-less pieces that make up "They Hate Francisco False" retain a fluidity that feels completely natural and unfeigned. Erasoul.com stated that "Francisco False" is "One of those albums you just have to hear."
His next album "Fallen Famous" (to be released on Equinox Records in May 2009) will contain powerful hip hop anthems such as "Count On It" and "Love Song" (feat. 2Mex and Awol One), as well as soulful folk-hop styled compositions such as "Bad Jokes" and "Bridge" where Ceschi paints a semi-fictional story of a one-man-band by the name of "Julius and The Bearded Savior" who stars in an ongoing tale of stardom, deception and failure within an unappreciative music industry.
Fresh off of a nationwide US tour with Sole and Myka 9, running his own record label Fake Four Inc., and releasing some of his strongest music to date, in 2009 Ceschi's name will spread further than ever before. So make sure to catch him on his European tour with Equinox and remember the name!
2econd Class Citizen (UK / Equinox Records)
2econd Class Citizen’s music is a hybrid of electronically produced folk rock combined with instrumental Hip-Hop beats. Both his EP Releases “Divided Reality“ and “Wyred Folk†have created a buzz of anticipation from a diverse collection of musical circles.
In march 2009, his astonishing debut album “Madrugada†will be released on Equinox Records in cooperation with Project: Mooncircle Records. 2econd Class Citizen has toured Europe in 2007 with Noah23 and Ceschi and has performed on festivals such as Glastonbury, one of the biggest festivals in the world. In his live sets he recreates the complexity and depth of orchestration he has become known for, using live sound editing software to keep a strong improvisational aspect.
DJ Scientist (GER / Equinox Records)
With Equinox Record's label founder DJ Scientist one of the most respected German DJs and beat producers enters the stage. Starting his DJ career in 1995 he has performed and toured with artists such as Sage Francis, The Pharcyde, Noah23, M.I.A., DJ Faust & DJ Shortee, Sole, Subtitle, DJ Static and many others. In his life shows he is combining hard hitting drumbreaks with smashing psych guitars and a touch of old school hip-hop samples.
Besides investing every minute to keep the label business running and offering high quality music to the sophisticated Equinox listeners he still finds time to follow his passion as a producer. DJ Scientist was completely responsible for the instrumental part of Ceschi’s new album “Fallen Famous†(released on Equinox / Fake Four Inc. in May 2009) and continues to work on various new projects.
