About Me

BIOGRAPHY
Zoey was the name of my first electric ‘gigging’ piano, a Roland MK80. I sold her to a close friend because I knew one day I would want her back! The closet is where I spend most of my time recording vocal tracks and laying down new song ideas. It’s a 4x6 box sound booth, it’s like my second home.” singer/songwriter Tricia Evans.
Zoey’s Closet is the new name for the band formerly known as Holler, a four piece alternative rock band hailing from the Canadian Prairies. Like many bands before them, Holler was faced with legalities over name possession and entitlement. Rather than occur problems after the release of the second album, the band decided to change it prior.
For The Record
Garageband.com views Zoey’s Closet (Holler) as their top 10 Rock band of all time. Prince George’s 94XFM kept them in the top 40 for 5 months with two singles hitting at 2 and 5. Regina’s 104.9FM The Wolf added Holler to their regular rotation creating another top 10 and created a buzz that followed the band to Toronto and across international borders. Sioux City Iowa’s Z95 radio station is awaiting the release of Dear Diary to feed the Holler fans. Seattle’s web station The Edge, had single ‘On and On’ as one of their most requested. Zoey’s Closet (as Holler) has showcased at the legendary Trubadour in Hollywood C.A. and played a private showcase in NYC. CD sales have reflected the band’s popularity as they held the 1 best seller for 6 weeks in a row at the local CDplus store in Regina. Prairies North magazine (spring 2007) named the band in their Top 50 Rising Stars.
The Album
Zoey’s Closet is releasing their second album 2 ½ years entitled Dear Diary. The album is a fusion of experiences from a band that has seen unusually bad luck in their development. From finding out that their now ex-manager was convicted for fraud, to guitarist Brad Taylor almost being hit by a girl that jumped from the roof of their hotel in Toronto during Canadian Music Week, 'Dear Diary' is exactly that.
Punchy guitar riff work, solid beats and powerfully sweet vocals are still the forefront in creating Zoey’s Closet’s unique and edgy sound. Drum tracks for Dear Diary were tracked at Bennett Studios in New Jersey, and MCC studios in calgary, but the rest was recorded, produced and engineered primarily out of Hollermusic Studios. Relying mostly on themselves, Zoey’s Closet is able to move forward independently. As a result, Zoey’s Closet has greater confidence and is focused on becoming the next great Canadian rock band.
The Writers
Writing a recording out of High River Alberta, Brad Taylor and Trish Evans are the driving force behind Zoey’s Closet. Individually, they are powerful and confident composers but as a team, they are able to produce and engineer music that audiences are drawn to. Their writing process has been quoted as a ‘very smooth and very enjoyable process.’ They have been collaborating since 2002 and show no signs of stopping. Session player, free-lance musician, band member composer, piano instructor, all describe lead sing Trish Evans. Trained in jazz Piano, music performance and composition, majoring in music education and conducting all work their way to formulate a unique sound for Zoey’s Closet. She is able to captivate listeners with her unique sound and dynamic stage presence. In a male-dominated industry, her voice carries over and above what listeners are used to hearing.
Brad Taylor has been playing guitar and writing music for most of his life. After playing in various bands and involved with various projects, Brad decided to focus his talent inward and develop his own unique style of writing and producing. It is very seldom that you see him away from his home recording studio, as he spends endless hours creating and developing new music and sounds. He recently started his own mobile recording company called Taylor Sound. (www.taylorsound.ca) Asked why he put aside his mainstream lifestyle and risked everything on the creation of Holler and Zoey’s Closet, Brad said, “Nothing else was meeting up to the challenge. Everything always came back to music, it’s what I do.” And he does it very well.
