The Legendary Hearts were formed in Edinburgh, Scotland in early 1987 as a vehicle for the songs of Ali Wilson. Ali had started out in 1977, drumming with various school/youthclub bands in Edinburgh before moving to Stirling in 1978 where he played with Graven Image and The Curious Reign. Returning to Edinburgh in April 1985 he floated through a couple of bands before joining "Psycho Cabaret" outfit Watch With Mother. They toured the UK for most of 1986 releasing one single, "Suzanne / Something So Wonderful". On receiving a glowing review in the NME they decided to split up! Ali decided to go it alone with some songs he’d written during this period, recruiting WWM keyboard player Lawrie Ball and bassman Maurice Dudley. Demos were recorded in March 1987.
A 12", 3 track E.P.," In A World Like This" was released on the Surfin’ Pict record label in March 1988, receiving favourable reviews and airplay. In 1990 the band contributed two tracks to a compilation C.D., "The CaVa Sessions - The Best New Music In Scotland" released by Tennents Live - the Scottish Brewery who now bring us Scotlands world famous "T in the Park" festival.
Songs were demoed in spring and autumn of 1992 with the intention of releasing an album in early 1993. This never happened although the demos are currently doing the rounds on Japanese college radio.
In early 1994, in an attempt to support his new family, Ali took a break from writing and went back to hitting drums for a living. He returned in August 2001 with a powerful new track "Queen of Lorient". However, line up problems persisted, going hand in hand with a divorce and a total and utter lack of cash to fund the band.
In 2002 Ali went back to teaching drums as well as playing with Celtic rockers Cranachan, Edinburgh guitar hero Rab Howat and The Dalry Lamas to name but a few, putting the Legendary Hearts temporarily on ice.
In May 2007 he decided to give it one last shot....Watch this space!!!
