Droylsden were originally formed at the invitation of Joseph Cropper, Landlord of the Butchers Arms, to play behind the pub. After twenty years of friendliest and local leagues, disbandment, reformations and changes of strip, the club emerged from the First World War the sole survivors amongst the village teams, and as members of the Manchester League. The club also adopted their now traditional colours of red and white, the inspiration for the almost unique nickname of 'The Bloods'.Two games in the 1921 Manchester Junior Cup Final against Hyde United of the newly formed Cheshire League attracted over 15,00 people to see Hyde prevail but the Bloods had their revenge two years later, taking the Cup from their local rivals.
Last season after a disappointing start to the season which saw the team lose four central defenders to injury in quick succession the Bloods staged another good recovery at the turn of the year to climb from 10th in the table to 4th to earn the side another chance at play-off glory. After an excellent 1-0 win in the play-off semi-final at Nuneaton Borough who had only lost at home once all season, Droylsden travelled to Burton Albion for the play-off final against Stafford Rangers. In a tense close-fought encounter the Bloods put in an excellent performance despite being down to 10 men for a large majority of the game and could have easily won it in an excellent 2nd half display. However the game went to extra time and penalties and unfortunately the Bloods lost 5-3 on penalties. Droylsden also reached the Manchester Premier Cup final for the 5th time in 7 years but unfortunately lost 2-1 to Hyde United at the Sportscity Athletics stadium. But this season we have done the double !! beating Flixton 3-0 at curzon ashton fc and winning the conference north tittle with a home win over Harrogate !!
