The Last Army bring rockandroll which veers from the contrite to the epic, but always broken and with a dark pop edge

TLA played their first gig at The Truck Festival in September 2007. Then, after having their demos discovered on Myspace by enthusiastic Hispanic DJ Julio Ruiz, garnered much national radio play in Spain. So they flew over towards the end of the year and got interviewed live on aforementioned national radio (Radio Nacional de España). They followed this by playing a mini-tour, starting with Madrid.

In early 2008 they started getting played on smaller radio stations in the US and also got played on Mexican radio on student station UABC. Then they became the weekly featured artist on Myspace Australia. And momentum kept growing elsewhere...France, Spain (another national station Plastica Elastica, Toxicosmos, magazine Indyrock), America (iacmusic.com - big 50 chart top 20 for both ‘Dead’ and ‘Submit to the Chemical’, UNU radio, KXLU Playlist for CMJ New World Music Chart). In the UK, XFM DJ Marsha Shandur stumbled upon them and said to her listeners – ‘They’re really good and therefore should be known about’.

In March The Last Army played a packed gig in Punk, Soho and Jimmy Pursey (formerly of Sham 69) joined them onstage - enthusiastically proclaiming “I love this lot!”. A few weeks later they shot a music video for the song ‘Dead’ - with one camera and no crew, and recorded a cover of Je t’aime (moi non plus) – a duet with Rebekah and Art Brut’s Eddie Argos.

In the summer they were interviewed live on Steve Lamacq’s BBC6 show and their first single (self-release, no budget) ‘Dead’ got its first few airings. Tom Robinson and Gideon Coe also played ‘Dead’ on BBC6. Then, in August, TLA got their first live UK live review - in The Fly, and it sung their praises.

They were reviewed and hailed as ‘best unsigned band’ in London Lite magazine and subsequently got radio play on BBC London as their ‘Record of the Week’. By Autumn they were the CMU Daily's (insider industry magazine) big tip, described as ‘Utterly brilliant. They have an impressive arsenal of hook-laden indie songs…’.

Winter 2008 started with TLA's inclusion on the Best of Myspace podcast. Since then they’ve been confined to their bunkers writing and demo-ing new songs ready for a full-on assault. In late March they were granted reprieve and toured the Basque country, getting on national Spanish radio (RNE) again and being featured in the national press (El Correo).

Spring 2009 finds them almost ready for the big push…

REVIEWS:

"On first listen to the band, it's all about the post-rock guitars offsetting a voice made for opulent lighting and red velvet curtains. Fans of Broadcast and Clinic will love Rebekah Delgado's hazy, electronic vocals on our London Calling record of the week, Dead. A pure pheromone rush" BBC London (UK) Aug 2008

"The Last Army's swoonsome pop essence is something that simply demands attention. Not least in singer Rebekah whose striking appearance reciprocates perfectly with her honey-soaked gravel vocals. When she whips out out the French-speak, blokes get hypnotised. You just can't take your eyes or ears off this for one second. Indeed, The Last Army are a weapon of mass destraction." Stephen Brolan, The Fly (UK) Aug 2008

"I have a new band for the decade. And I do not believe I'm mistaken in asserting that The Last Army, six months in existence, five myspace songs, and zero label, has the promise of a beautiful future. One of two things awaits them: glory, or cult status….." Thibaut, Magasin Magazine (FRANCE) Feb 2008

"Sounds amazing! Romantic and nihilistic" KZSU Radio, California (US)

"They're really good and therefore should be known about. The Last Army are fronted by a lady who has a sweet and engaging singing voice. She also has this sexy, breathy way of half-talking in some bits (not in an annoying trendy way, I promise!); I don't know what she looks like, but she sounds hot. Especially when she's speaking French..." Marsha Shandur, XFM (UK)

"In 'Dead' the verses resemble a gloomily distorted nursery rhyme, and the chant is like some archaic ceremonial ritual. In 'Broken Down in London Town', Rebekah relates a triilingual story, complete with a background accordion that transports us to the cafes of Paris." Raül Ruiz, Indyrock (SPAIN)

"The Last Army have one foot as firmly planted in The Dark Side as the other is in The Light" Supersweet (UK)

"London sounds like this to me. Musical points of reference…The Clash, Buzzcocks and The Only Ones. Fresh, poignant, sometimes verging on numinous. Here's hoping they tour America this year…" Rockbites (US)

Murray Jason, Radio KZSU (US)
