JOHNNY B. WILLIAMS: THE WAY I WORSHIP

About Me

Johnny B.Williams is a lover of God and His people. He is a born again believer in Jesus Christ who is dedicated to spreading the gospel to the world. Johnny is a singer, musician, songwriter, actor, playwright, producer, educator, and entrepreneur. He graduated from Leon High School in Jewett, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from Prairie View A&M University, and a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration from University of Phoenix. He is a former theatre public school teacher. He is currently the Director of Music and Worship at the LightHouse Church in Houston, TX. He is the founder and owner of Johnny Williams Enterprises. From the dirt roads of small east towns, to the bustling streets of Los Angeles and New York City, Johnny B. has lifted his voice in sincere worship. From the great cathedrals of the United Kingdom to the tiny iglesias of Mexico he has strummed his guitar and tapped into the very pulse of God. Whether he is in an arena or in a backwoods church with wooden floors, Johnny B. pours his entire heart out before God and welcomes all in attendance to join him in worship.Johnny accepted Christ and started singing at a very young age in his church choir back home in Jewett, TX, a small town with a population of 700. His late father, Johnny B. Williams, Sr. was a faithful deacon and a devoted member of The Buffalo Male Chorus, a local quartet group. His mother, Mary Williams, still resides in Jewett and has always been powerful, praying missionary who dedicated her entire life to serving others and helping those in need. It was on the old wooden benches of those old Baptist and Pentecostal churches where Johnny developed a desire to play the guitar and play the piano. At age 5, Johnny got his first guitar. Almost as soon as he picked it up, he was making melodious music. His mom and dad recognized that this was a gift from God and were diligent to keep him involved in music. As Johnny grew older, he participated and won in school and local talent shows. He became interested in Theatre Arts in jr. high school. He competed in theatre, as well as poetry interpretation and debate throughout high school. Johnny won many awards for his superior acting ability and received a scholarship to attend college, where he continued to thrive as an actor. Even as an actor, the love for music was still in Johnny's heart. He began to take some basic music courses in college and joined the jazz band. He later became a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity, a national music fraternity. In 1999, Johnny began to develop a stronger relationship with God and reconnected with his gospel roots. He became active as a musician at a church near his college, where he also accepted his call to ministry. After graduation, Johnny moved to Houston and immediately devoted his gifts to the ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ.Since then, Johnny has traveled extensively with his music ministry and has worked faithfully in music ministry. His independently released debut album 'The Way I Worship' was very successful, and earned him a place in the hearts of people in the U.S. and abroad, as well as the respect of his peers in the music industry. He is considered by many to be an extraordinary talent and one the most gifted artists in music today. His voice has been compared to those of many great singers. However, he is truly unique and has a personality that puts him in a class all by himself. As a writer, he taps into the heartbeat of God and truly captures the essence of authentic worship. “When I sing, my audience is God, and God's audience is His people; as my heart moves God, He moves His people,” Johnny explains.Debut Release- The Way I Worship (2008 Johnny Williams Enterprises) Johnny B. Williams’ music is influenced by many of his favorites - a bit of Stevie Wonder and Kim Burrell, peppered with the contemporary stylings of Israel Houghton, Jonathan Butler, Chris Tomlin and Michael W. Smith. His traditional flavor is shaped by the stylings of legends like Dorothy Norwood, Rance Allen, and Kathy Taylor. His unmistakeable down south gritty soul comes from growing up listening to quartets like The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Canton Spirituals, and The Fairfield Four. Now toss in the soul and R&B vibe of J. Moss, Prince, and Musiq Soulchild. The assortment of this roster of influences represents the diversity of Johnny B. Williams’ talent poured into his music. On his debut release 'The Way I Worship' he taps into the heartbeat of God and truly captures the essence of authentic worship on the breakout hit title track “The Way I Worship” and on the worship anthem “Forever Praise.” Johnny demonstrates this rich traditional upbringing with a down home quartet tune “I’m Gonna Serve The Lord.” His roots stand strong on the traditional gospel track “He’ll Pick Up The Pieces” featuring powerhouse vocalist Kathy Taylor. These tracks leap straight from the old wooden benches of those old Baptist and Pentecostal churches in which Johnny grew up. The musical styles represented on The Way I Worship are diverse and appeal to all types of listeners. One of the principle purposes of the project is to bring a worship experience right into the listener's home, car, job or wherever they hear the music. The Way I Worship is lifestyle music that is to provoke change, inspire hope and build the kingdom. The Message Behind The Music1 Chronicles 15:2 says, "Then David said, 'No one is to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever.'” What sets the Levite apart from every other musician is his purpose and his assignment. The Levite understands that his ministry is to usher in the presence of God. He also understands that his audience for worship is God, and God's audience is His people. We are just vehicles through which God chooses to move. One of the principle purposes of Johnny's ministry is to give every listener a personal encounter with the true and living God. When Jesus is lifted up, He draws the masses. So, where talent fails, God prevails. Whereas people fall short, His grace is sufficient.Johnny also believes that by living a life of faith, everyone can truly fulfill the awesome purpose God has for their lives. Mark 11:22-24 says, "And Jesus answered saying to them, 'Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you." The awesome thing about God is that he gets glory by using the most unlikely people to do great work for His kingdom. With faith, God can turn a failure into a future. He can turn a miserable mess into a spectacular success!
