About Me

In memory of my uncle, Homa Leapai

When I emailed everyone about Homa passing I just said “we lost a ray of sunshine today.” Many wrote back, “but we gained an angel” or “now the sun will shine even brighter.” But I knew no person whose light shone as bright as my uncle Homa's. I remember many times sneaking into the luau with friends to watch the show and being amazed every time i saw him dance the fireknife. He inspired many young boys to pick up the fire knife and and many men to try to be as good as him (dreamers). Homa wanted to have a son to pass on his skills as a fire knife dancer and entertainer. Since that did not happen he shared those talents with my little brothers, V.J. and Rex. V.J. Inherited his skills and Rex his personality. Now they will carry on that torch for him and keep his fires burning as they are world champions fire knife dancers. His home was a gathering place as Homa always welcomed everyone and everyone loved his company. I remember many pool parties with Selina when we were young and being made to sing songs while he took videos of us or played his ukulele. He truly had a love for life. He loved his culture. He loved his family and we loved him. You were like the sunshine, uncle Homa. Your light will be with our family and our community forever. A legacy and a pioneer. I miss you, uncle Homa. Have a wonderful trip back to our Heavenly Father, free from pain, resting in paradise, playing your ukulele, and singing a song. Now the heavens are blessed to have you. And I was blessed to have known you and to call you my Uncle. Your loving niece, Avon and family.
