About Me

Born in the back alleys in Roslindale, Massachusetts, the Chief Rat was found scurrying through the city of Boston, listening in on the great artists playing at Passims in Cambridge, to the great Western Massachusetts woods where Arlo Guthrie played to the audiences there.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightening hit, and the Chief Rat transformed into a human of sorts, the like that was never found on this planet. Unable to reveal itself to mankind, the C.R. found itself tunneling in and out of clubs and stadiums throughout the United States, Canada, and yes, even the UK. It absorbed and absorbed all of the sounds, ingesting them as if they were food...until it reached the shining city of San Francisco!
There Chief Rat met others of its kind, eager to explore sight, sound, and texture. Visual and audio melted and melded. Soon Chief discovered a world known as the IN- TER- NET, and the world far beyond the land based audio visual opened up!
Never having to reveal Chief Rat's true identity, it was able to live a genderless, faceless life of music and visualness that permeated all. Then other CRs appealed to it, and combined their skills, creating an orchestra. Solo efforts of creative magnificence now became international, unimpeded, and unencumbered by walls or prejudices. The music and art became all, and Chief Rat discovered the land, the power, the magic that is RAT MAN DO!

James Taylor and James Newton Howard. African Drums and Native American Drums. Brazilian dance music, and New Zealand didjeridoo, too. Miles and Coltrane. Ravi and Shankir, Norah and Naomi, Indie and India. Red Hot Chillis and Exene. Poets and Poe. Tom Lehrer and Tom Jones. And, Stephen Hawking.
Sounds Like: Each song has it's own personality. Every single lyric has an emotion or an idea. To say Ratmando sounds like something in particular is like saying that every single song is the same. That's simply not the case. Every song, in fact is an evolutionary process. Every piece of music becomes a step into the next progressive factor and the next progression determines the events that develop the next progressive step into the next piece of song.

The power of RatManDo is in the idea that collaboration is possible with artists in many nations, in many languages. The only language necessary is MIDI. One song can transform into a full set of ideas and even a set of symphonic ideas. That is the DO. If you want to be a "RAT" you should PM, to discuss the possibilities. You just need to have a skill with ProTools, or a similar music creation software package, and the ability to create and transform MIDI files, building upon a basic theme or melody.

The music of RatManDo appears here, and at RatManDo.net. More information coming SOON!
