About Me

Welcome aboard the mothership known as the UFOlab....
Need a place to record? Then look no further, the UFOlab is a highly capable and adaptable studio complex based just a 15 minute walk away from the city centre. With views of the racecourse it is a relaxing place to record, mix and master your music. Owned and run by an experienced musician, engineer and producer the studio houses equipment and facilities far beyond what one may expect in a non mainstream studio.
The studio comprises of a main Production suite (Control room) and a smaller recording live room. The control room is connected to the drum room with 12 audio feeds, as well as midi, usb and monitor (allowing occupant to fully control the computer etc from the control, ideal for dance, industrial, breakbeat etc with live musicians and computers) The room also features an all important sofa for relaxing during lengthy recording sessions! Recording is taken care of by G5 Macintosh with pro A-D converters (3GHz Digital Village Pc also available if required)

Acoustic treatment:
Importantly, both rooms have had professional acoustic treatment to ensure the required acoustics qualities necessary for recording are available. Bass traps, panel absorbers and high end diffusers are used to ensure a very low (and even) reverberation time across the frequency spectrum and minimize standing waves, flutter echo, comb effect etc. This may appear to be of little importance but trust me, I'd rather record and mix in an acoustically perfect environment with a four track than with full pro tools rig in an untreated environment (as most low ends studios are not). I have experience of this and the results are not pretty!
Need to do some recording?
This facility has been designed to be able to cope with all kinds of recording needs, from full band recordings to mixing of previously recorded tracks. For this reason, prices are subject to individual needs and how long you want, but very cheap deals are available upon request, so if you are unsure, just drop me an email we can discuss your particular arrangements in more detail.
About me (studio owner):
As a drummer I have been playing and recording in bands for nearly 15 years during which I have developed and constantly refined my technical skills in recording and production. I have been fortunate enough to have played on a song on a BPI promotional CD (the British Phonographic Industry are a body that represents the UK recording industry), worked on a film that was shown at the Cannes film festival and supported some iconic UK bands on tour. For The last four years I have lectured in Music Technology at WCoT, including being course leader for two courses. In particular I lecture in technical subjects such as Acoustics (the physics of sound) and have experience in designing and building recording studios. I have a Diploma in Music from a London Music school, an Honours degree in Music Technology as well as a Certificate in Education.
