I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I’ve been playing in the band MONOLITH and with my brother Eric for over 13 years and released 3 cds and 2 tapes. Our albums are available across the world. During this time I have toured the entire East Coast from New Jersey to Florida, Virginia to the Mississippi. I have worked for 6 different recording studios over the last 12 years as a recording engineer, mix engineer, mastering engineer, producer, and studio musician. I have produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered anything from Gospel to Bluegrass, Country to Heavy Metal. I currently run my own full time production recording studio in Winchester, VA. I own Icon Records, an indie label and recording studio that has been in business since 1997. Icon Records also manufactures CDs, DVDs, Vinyl, Press Kits, Websites, Business Cards, and other forms of media. If it involves music or print, we can do it. Big or small. I have done work for big production live sound companies as FOH engineer and monitor engineer along with smaller sound companies. I have also been hired as a personal FOH engineer (sound man) for many bands over the years. I love the challenge of walking into a sound system and trying to get the best sound possible with what is provided for use. I also have worked on the retail side of the music industry in my younger days in record stores and music instrument stores where I received countless hours of training from industry reps and instrument seminars. I have been playing the drums my entire life and was born to a mother who plays guitar. My uncle Hugh also plays the drums. I have literally had a drum stick, guitar, and some kind of tape recorder in my hands since the day I was born. I enjoy passing what I have learned about the music industry onto others so they can avoid many of the bad situations and mistakes that I have been dealt in the many years in the industry. I also like to be an example and an inspiration to upcoming young musicians. I like to explain you can have a normal life with a family, and still pursue your dreams, ambitions, and goals.
I like to spend time with my two little boys Collin Daniel and London James. They are my entire world and have shown me so much about life. Everything I do is for them and they give me the inspiration to accomplish the impossible.

Folks that are real.

Music:

I love music, all kinds. Working as a recording engineer for many years will make you listen to different genera's that you would never pick out on a whim. I can listen to just about anything. I am a BIG fan of the way different music sounds and the way it is recorded. The way it was mixed. The tone of the room it was played in. The sounds deep within the recording. I like the noise in the background. The way the compressor is clamping down on the bass drum. The sound of the vocalist taking a breath between words. A guitar pick scraping against a overdriven string when it is not suppose to. I would challenge anyone that claimed to have a bigger music collection than mine. I have more than one room dedicated to my albums.

Movies:

Any old western or cowboy movie B/W or color, movies based in the 20's, Star Wars, Lady in The Water, Sin City, The Prestige, Signs,............I really do not watch a hole lot of movies. There is a lot of other things to get done in one day. When I do get a chance to watch one it had better be a good one.

Television:

The History Channel, TLC, Discovery, National Geographic, Science Channel, Military Channel, Speed Channel(No NASCAR!), G4TV

Books:

I read a lot of technical manuals and a lot of magazines, and I do mean a lot! Mostly tech, music, or car related.

Heroes:

Dad, Mom, Pap & Grandma, Grandpa & Granny, both sides of my family, Tim Artz, Eric Bayliss

Why do I set my drums up the way I do?

Actually I started setting up my drums the way I do now after we recorded "Have A Nice Day!" in 1997. I got the idea when I was having a really hard time feeling comfortable playing behind the ki...
