ROdot founded itself on two music passionated people who started listening to
electronic music at the time 'Big Beat' was a hot item. Influenced by artists
such as Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Groove Armada they
started to dig more and more in the history of electronic music until they
discovered the magnificence of rave. As they where to young to experience the
real rave vibe back in the days, they soon realized that they where obliged to
cherish the rave. On the other hand they where aware that they also had to be
open mined towards the newer stuff. And that is just what ROdot is all about,
from the latest electro tunes till the most underground rave track, from booty
and breakbeat to pounding techno music, from acid to James Brown and funky sexy
cool disco anthems. We like to do it all, and we like to mix it in a nice cupso
it's an easy swallower. We just want to inspire, with what inspired us.
Nicolas & Gérard were born in Ukraine somewhere around the time the big boom occured. As they lived in the same extremely small village, they were practically forced to become friends. Forced because in the beginning they weren’t quite fond of eachother, as a matter of fact they hated each other. The reason for this hatred was the fact that Nicolas was the only boy in the village who had two shirts instead of the common one. Which made Nicolas look much more hygienic as Gerard. That all changed when they were send to the army at the age of 13. This was not the way they pictured their Ukrainian live and they decided to run away together to Europe, particularly France. Gérard used to keep a small map of Europe in his pocket which he nicked from a serial box, which he got for his birthday. Because he wasn’t really familiar with scaling techniques, he thought that a hike to France wouldn’t take any longer than half a day. This assumption appeared to be a tad bit wrong. After 6 months they arrived in Berlin, which at that time they thought was Paris. They changed there names in order to avoid Ukrainian secret police and started looking out for work. They found work in a trendy nightclub called ‘La Bergerie’ where Gérard was responsible for washing the dishes and Nicolas (as he was the most hygienic) cleaning toilets. At this nightclub they got swept away by the electronic music which was very similar to the Ukrainian folk music their parents used to make. They were totally into this kind of music and one day after theirhard working hours they started experiencing with the decks at the empty club. After some practicing they were allowed to stand in for the sick resident dj and they did so well they became resident dj's at La Bergerie. But in the end the owner of the club appeared not to be so trustworthy as he looked and he didn’t pay the boys a Mark. To punish him for this Gérard started a sexual affaire with his wife and Nicolas with his mistress, true Ukrainian style. Also they placed seven illegal Ghanaians who they booked as a bongo act in the club’s kitchen and called the German social service. Which let to the club being closed down and the owner put in jail. Because Gérard & Nicolas heard that Berlin was the centre of electronic music they left Berlin (which they still thought was Paris) and left for Paris. After a few rambles they came in Antwerp, which they thought was quit small to be Berlin. After a couple of months they also realised that this wasn’t Berlin but they liked it so much here that they decided to stay. Because they also found out that Antwerp had rich suburbs they kidnapped two normal scholar boys and started living there lives. This may sound cruel, but in the end they all did it for the music...
