Since the early days of hip hop, New York’s boroughs have brought us some of the most notable emcees of all time. Brooklyn’s EL HEFE, straight out of Bed-Stuy, is gearing up to take his spot on the throne among the hip-hop kings of New York that we know and love.His debut project, titled THE HOSTILE TAKEOVER, scheduled for release February 2008, on The Focused Machine ©, comes from him helping several of his peers with their projects and deciding to make his own project to show them how it’s done. “My mother taught me that if you look out for people, karma will look out for you”, EL HEFE explains. “I lost my mother at a young age, but our struggle as a family and my mother’s energy to persevere at any cost with feistiness and wit is what gives me my spirit – her loss is what gives me my anger.”EL HEFE grew up in a household where they cooked, cleaned, ate meals, and studied to music. His early influences included a range of musicians from KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool G Rap on the hip hop side, to Marvin Gaye and John Coltrane on the soulful side. His moment of truth came when he saw Kane’s “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” on Video Music Box. “When I came outside after watchin’ the video, that’s all everybody could talk about. I knew at that moment I wanted to be a star.”The current single from THE HOSTILE TAKEOVER, “CERTIFIED HUSTLER”, has enjoyed instant underground success after the recent release of the single’s video directed by MTV’s Papi Garcia. Other tracks include “I AIN’T BUYING YOU A DRINK” featuring label mate THE REAL DILLZ’, produced by Young Dru. And “POP OFF” produced by Kafeno both producers of the Rockwilder camp.“I want to be an example of how to do it yourself. I truly believe in the pursuit of happiness, and I work to be a clear blueprint of the possibility that few of my peers believe exists for ‘guys like us’. I believe hard work, dedication, and perseverance is what’s makes all possible. I want to be seen as a true success story – not only financially, but more importantly successful at helping the people in my life become who they envision themselves to be.”EL HEFE is currently in production on a reality special entitled “The Making of a Hip-Hop Mogul” chronicling the creation of CERTIFIED HUSTLER commissioned by producers at MTV. His work can be currently seen on Speed/Fox TV's "Unique Whips" and is soon to be featured on MTV's "Super Sweet 16". His music can be heard most recently in current rotation on NYC's Show and Prove, and Wheat bread Radio.
