I grew up listening to Dylan, Neil Young, The Stones, and I am still growing up listening to many of these performers who were strong influences- But most of all Dylan. Consequently my music is aimed to deliver powerful lyrics, normally through fast, grinding stories or philosophy and ideals. My words are vital to my music as they deliver the message, whilst my music provides an appropriate vehicle for the delivery of that specific message.My goal is ultimately to enjoy a life writing songs of this nature for other performers, film scores and so on. Or perhaps to find a way of combining with my brother, Andy (Rosco Records) as between us we have an awesome amount of versatile product.I have written over 25 songs, 3 of which are sent on my demo disk, “Blink Twiceâ€.1) ‘Colour Beaded Necklace’ (The English Spelling!!)
I almost called this Vain. How many of us know a woman who ‘behind that sexy smile, lies a complicated woman, lies a tricky little girl, who can kill you with a smile’.2) ‘Whats Going On?’ Is a favourite of mine! A driving base line and a speed which leaves you standing, as the lyrics set a scene of the futility of war and the basic simple pleasures one thinks of when far from home ‘fighting for a cause in a distant place.’ This was actually written a while ago and is a song that is timeless. It was written with Bosnia, Czechoslovakia, The Middle East,, Congo, and other conflict zones in mind. The ultimate message is positive3) ‘Blink Twice’ – If you blink twice life moves on. This song also has a war undertone and a positive story to tell. Various ideas and obscure ideas such as ‘going round in circles till you form a square.’ which I hope will prove thought provoking. This is another of my favorites. Its really about taking ones life into ones own hands and making decisions, sometimes difficult for ‘if you blink twice life moves on…’In short, I could write for ages about my songs, aspirations and so forth, but for now I will stop and let the music speak for itself!I hope very much that you enjoy what I have to say...Gavin
