Tryin' to keep my one-eyed dog from escapin' through the window. Eatin' peach cobbler.
Other friendly sorts.Nadine Pegler, my grade-school music teacher, who said I couldn't sing. But she's dead now. Seance anyone?Jesse James, so I could give him a good what-for.
Dolly Parton. Loretta Lynn. Bickering country duets. Country story songs. Lonesome howling. '70s country. Protest songs. Anything with a good story. Despite my love for blues and country music, however, my favorite tunes of all time are the 1962 novelty song "Monster Mash" as well as Warren Zevon's masterpiece "Werewolves of London." Ah-ooooo.
The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's, North by Northwest, The Killing, Fargo. (In that order.) I'm a Steve McQueen fan, too. Films I don't like: most dramas. They're always trying to *teach* you something.
LOST, Top Chef, No Reservations With Anthony Bourdain, Hart to Hart, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, any of the Law and Order varieties, Dragnet, Unsolved Mysteries, The Twilight Zone. Any crime show, really--especially if it involves reenactments.
Authors I like: James Ellroy. Patricia Highsmith. Donna Tartt. Charles Willeford. Caleb Carr. Anne Sexton. Flannery O'Connor. Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and other Beat writers. Rebbe Nachman of Braslav. Crime novels and crime reportage/nonfiction. With the exception of James Joyce (a genius), I am not fond of "experimental" fiction. I enjoy good stories with original plot lines and strong characters.
My sweet mom.
