Chicken Shack is one of the top rockabilly venues in the South East. We present some of the best bands in the country, all of which are supported by the Rollin' Rock Record Hop.We've been running The Shack for 4 years now (we being Rob on the decks and Deb on the door!) and hopefully, with support, will be running it for some years to come. We've put on bands such as The Blue Flames, Jack Rabbit Slim, The Hicksville Bombers and Slim Slip and the Sliders, to name but a few.As a DJ Rob's been gigging on and off since he was 16 - and solidly for the last 9 years, playing a good cross-section of music ranging from blues boppers and rockabilly through to jive and mainstream rocking. Rob can be contacted for bookings through email to this site.As promoters we started out in Baldock as Rockin' at the Venue, progressing to Hitchin Town Hall, and finally coming to rest at The Chicken Shack in Brogborough, where Rob had DJ'd several times for the previous promoter, playing r'n'b and hard-core rockabilly.The Brogborough club, we were told, is due for demolition so Chicken Shack has now moved to Hitchin Town Football Club which is in Fishponds Road, Hitchin, Herts. You'll find Fishponds Road just off Bedford Road and the Football Club is opposite the Swimming Pool.We're into our second year running from Hitchin now. Last year we had some great bands, such as Slim Slip, the Hicksville Bombers, Jack Rabbit Slim, Rudy La Crioux and Warren Scott and the Memphis Playboys. All were successful nights enjoyed by all.On 15th November we saw out 2008 with a 3 band night. Not only did we have The Blue Flames but also The Excellos and The Moonshine Boys!!!!! Great night - what more can i say! We came back in February 2009 with another double bill, The Hicksville Bombers and The Trashville Slammers. There was no gig in March but on the 18th April we rocked with Boogie Children and The Roof Raisers. Next gig 11th July with The Tex Speed Combo and The Moonshine Boys.See you all soon.
