I'm a DJ and a drummer from Rio de Janeiro, but living in Berlin. Music is my business. I like to act in different positions and styles. I may perform in a world-beat-party in Samarkand and months later in an electro-club in Rio. What counts is the beat, the groove. And the message! Behind the drums or behind the sound-system, I try to make people jump and think. ____________________________________________________________ ____AS A DJ:MAD MONDO! I like unusual fusions. My DJ-set is a crossover in the spectrum of pop and tribal world beatz, and my strong point is the electronic pop made in Brazil, in particular those alternative label productions that promote a mixture of traditional Brazilian music, such as samba, maracatu, forró and coco, with modern pop beats, like electro, drum’n’bass, breakbeat, Rio-funk, ragga, dancehall, hip/trip-hop and rock – but that’s not all. In my DJ-sets, I play also Latin, Afro, Bhangra, Oriental and Balkan beats, keeping my crossover style, spicing up parties with the best electronic pop. The idea is to wipe away prejudices, making the traditional fit the dancefloor and the other way round. Antennas and roots. That's what I actually play in Brazil - that's what people there expect from a DJ coming from Berlin! I had really good gigs there in the last years, so I decided to spinn it here in Berlin as well, despite the keen competition between electro DJs. Why not, if I can do it too?! ____________________________________________________________ ____CAREER:My career started as a journalist and music critic for magazines and news agencies in Brazil, but in 1995 it was time for something new. I arrived in Berlin, my current home, with a suitcase full of records. Soon I started DJing in different clubs and events in and around the city. The Brazilian parties were, at the time, a bit straight and dated, limited to samba hits and axé-music, with poor and sexist lyrics. I worked to show my audience the different “countries” inside the big country called Brazil, teaching the latest trends and fighting against those Brazilian music stereotypes.Living in such a multicultural city as Berlin opened my ears to new music from all over the world that were promptly included in my sets. In a short time, I became known in the Brazilian and world beat scene for being both a versatile DJ on the cutting edge of the trends and an artist with a strong knowledge of music.______________________________________________________ __________AS A DRUMMER & OTHERS:Besides being a DJ, I am also a drummer and a percussionist. I've played the drums in the legendary band “Shottas” (former Xotas Mortais - "Eh aueh" above on the player) with bassist Sandra Coutinho, who is now playing with Benzina aka Skandurra. I've also hit the skins in the rock power-trio Kiosk ("Jungle surf" above on the player) and in the ska band wonderSka. I've been also colaborating with Brazilian guitarist Laura L.'s instrumental trip-rock project M.i.p.V.
