About Me
BLAH
Aristotle says in, 'The Purpose and Nature of Drama' The essence of tragedy is related directly to the Action involved, so that the very 'act' is the real focus for the purgation or cathartic experience, not the iambic verse or other peripheral theatrical devises.
The live experience is the ultimate experience of these performances. A constructed situation, an action, a stripping down of the spectators passive supplication, a dynamiting through the mountains of conglomerate idiocy that blocks the minds of the attentive consumer busily behaving in compliance to the laws of freedom that are spread through the didacticism of the mass media.
Just do as I do.
The formula of Hollywood morality; The nature of these basic films etc is the foundation of propaganda, which is to display a mode of acceptable behaviour, through subtle nuance and suggestion, so that all audiences look at films, theatre etc, believing that the film are directly expressing a code for conduct/lifestyle.
Audiences do not appear to understand that the stage is a place for experimentation, a pace where we should be able to explore what it is to be human, without fear and without believing that we should emulate what it is that we see on stage/film.
We know what is right.
The stage can be anywhere.
It is good to interlope into the 'everyday' with a constructed situation that surprises the unsuspecting passer-by and distorts or monsters their idea of where they are, especially if they are on their well worn way to work. It is best to present them with a new vision/idea/concept that burns into their minds and confuses them so that they cannot get the sight and sound of it out of their head for as long as possible, just like the psychological devices of advertising and political propaganda.
When performing in a designated performance space; nightclubs, theatre's, galleries, etc, it is good to surround the audience with performers and confuse them in a Fo'esque manner. This can emphasise the closed-in ness of the area making the audience feel trapped as well as confused as to what is reality and what is 'performance'. Confronting the audience with my idea of 'truth' usually makes them aggressive and confused, not by showing them something that they haven't already seen but by presenting images and sounds that are not usually shown together in as realistic a way as possible, for example the pornography and execution video shown as a back drop to Hornidad is very simple and is basically footage of legal executions, taken from a number of different sources, interspersed with pornographic images, your basic sex and violence that is seen on most televisions, I just chose to represent this theme as it really is without the use of super model actors buffed to blow machine guns or otherwise. Although people were angered by the video some were really angered by the chopping of f of the chooks head, and bathing in the death throw blood ejaculating from the neck. They weren't angry because of corporal punishment of human beings, possibly because it was on a video so 'twice removed' from reality, but by the fact that they were forced to face reality, the reality of death. The fact that people had reported us to the RSPCA was absurd considering it has been recently discovered that this Govt body sponsors battery hen companies and that thousands of these hens were killed because of the outbreak of some horrible disease, probably brought about by the fact that they feed these animals back to themselves, forcing them to be cannibals ha ha, as well as the fact that most people eat chickens anyway or are they just eating chicken meat? These are the torturers The chook tasted great but plucking the thing was such a hassle as it is illegal to kill an animal on stage unless it's for religious purposes and you eat it afterwards, so lucky we're Satanic Baby Sacrificing Devil Worshippers hey. The RSPCA guys watched the whole show along with the under cover detectives, actually the undercover police really understood the ironies discussed in the performance and enjoyed it. Of course these officials turned up on the second performance and witnessed the frozen chook crucified to a cross, as we were expecting them for the FEAST!
To trap the mind is to transfix it, manipulate it, captivate it, flatter it, entertain it and then feed it with messages anything you like..
