Marcus Bartelt, geb. 1969 in Aachen, Tenor und Baritonsaxophonist, auch andere Saxophone, Flöte, Klarinette und Bassklarinette. Studierte Jazz Saxophon am Hilversums Conservatorium (heute Amsterdamer Hochschule der Künste) bei Ferdinand Povel und Herman Schoonderwaldt. Lebt seit Mitte der 90er Jahre in Köln und ist sehr gefragt als Jazzsolist sowie Big Band- und Studiomusiker in Deutschland sowie den BeNeLux Staaten. Spielte u.a. mit Bob Brookmeyer,Till Broenner, Maceo Parker, Michel Herr, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Shirley Bassey, Nana Mouskouri und allen Deutschen Rundfunk Big Bands. Aktuelle Projekte sind neben ausgedehnter Studio- und Big Band-Tätigkeit das Quintett mit dem Trompeter Ralf Hesse, ein klassisches Tenor-Trio mit Markus Schieferdecker und Jens Düppe und "Into the Blue", eine neue Band mit Martin Sasse an der Hammond-Orgel und dem Gitarristen Bruno Müller. Ein weiteres aktuelles "Lieblingskind" ist das "Neue Deutsche Welle"- Projekt mit dem Trompeter Matthias Bergmann. Außerdem ist MB Mitglied der Band des Sängers Tom Gaebel, einem der Shooting Stars der Deutschen Musikszene.
Darüberhinaus gründete MB 2002 das Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, eine 17- köpfige Big Band die seither monatlich mit den verschiedensten Gästen im Kölner Stadtgarten Konzertsaal auftritt sowie bereits auf diversen Festival wie Moers (2006) oder der Kölner Musiktriennale (2004/2007) zu hören war.-----------------------------------Marcus Bartelt, born in Aachen in 1969, main instruments tenor and baritone saxophone, also plays the other saxes, flute, clarinet and bassclarinet. Studied jazz saxophone at the renowned Hilversum Conservatory (now Amsterdam university of the Arts) with Ferdinand Povel and Herman Schoonderwaldt. Living in Cologne since the mid-nineties, he has built a high reputation as a soloist and studio musician in Germany and the BeNeLUX countries. He has played and recorded with a.o. Bob Brookmeyer, Till Broenner, Maceo Parker, Michel Herr, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Nana Mouskouri, Shirley Bassey and all German radio Big Bands. Currently he co-leads his own quintet playing bari with trumpet player Ralf Hesse, his own trio playing tenor, and "Into the Blue", a great new organ band alongside keyboard player Martin Sasse and guitarist Bruno Müller. Another current favourite is the "Neue Deutsche Welle" project with trumpet player Matthias Bergmann which features jazz versions of German pop music from the 80s. He is also a member of the band of singer Tom Gaebel, one of Germanys most promising new stars. Furthermore Marcus has been the founder of and driving force behind the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, a 17-piece Big Band that appears once a month at Cologne..s well known Jazz venue "Stadtgarten" and has also played a number of festivals over the past years.------------------------------------------------------
