Big Erle
(BLUES FOLK SLIDE)
Big Erle is a wollongong based musical group. Self described as Bent Blues with an Afro twist. Big Erle has played various Sydney and South Coast venues as well as music festivals in the Illawarra. Big Erle's music has been heard on ABC Radio Illawarra, 2voxx FM and 2bbr fm (Glebe).Big Erle's (Simon Leamon's) unique vocal technique draws influence from blues singers of the 30;s and 40's. His strong vocal overlays his fingerpicking slide/lapslide/acoustic guitar style. The driving rhythm and beats of Drewe (bass) Kade and Damo (percussion) bend the classic blues style reflecting its tribal origins. Big Erle has fostered his interest in blues/folk themes developing a fusion between contemporary songwriting technique and old world blues and folk traditions, creating a unique and tempered style.
Big Erle tells the stories of Wollongong, living between the escarpment and the sea. The lyrical content reflects life in these parts and the continuing efforts to find a path through this life that respects; people, the environment, the community and the soul.
May the sun shine on you always.
