Solfege

About Me

In music, solfège is a pedagogical solmization technique for the teaching of sight-singing in which each note of the score is sung to a special syllable, called a solfège syllable (or "sol-fa syllable"). The seven syllables normally used for this practice in English-speaking countries are: do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, and ti. This is how we say the music we play. Making sounds our own unique way.The Solfege project is a technology-enabled experiment into the creation of emotive, expressive or just plain interesting music. Incorporating live looping into the setup allows pieces of music that would simply be impossible to play otherwise.Daniel Grieff, Ryan Fitzsimmons and Chris Wood are the contingent of musicians behind the project, with Daniel and Ryan taking responsibility for all looped instruments and Chris delivering drums and percussion. The sonic arsenal at the disposal of the musicians is key to the diversity of the music they perform. A grand inventory of Fretless Electric Guitar, Fretless Electric Bass, Piano, Cello and Violin is abetted by a vast array of synthesis, sound design and digital manipulation that facilitates a hybrid of old and new.Influence has been drawn from styles not often associated with groups that utilise technology into their setup such as classical and jazz. But the focus is very much forward, endevouring to create original music with a truly neophile approach. This is how we play the music we play.
