Ground Wire

About Me

GROUND WIRE is a vintage-rock band from Chicago founded by Chris Steele and Mat Koehler, formerly of The Live Wire. Using a two-guitar attack to maximum effect, Mat and Chris have honed a distinctive “neo-classic” sound. Ground Wire’s live sets balance original songs with covers that range in style from blues rarities and alt- country to classic rock and post punk. Throughout, Steele's searing vocals and Koehler's ripping guitar lines provide an arsenal of sharp hooks, driven in deep by the band’s percussive dynamo. The result is a soulful style that channels Elmore James, Jeff Tweedy, Spoon, and Ryan Adams, among others, but remains unmistakably Ground Wire.
