The Socks

Chi vi scrive è Davide, ovvero il bassista della band… In principio eravamo io, Stefano (chitarra), Marco (chitarra) e Matteo (batteria). Nonostante suonassimo insieme da tempo, la nostra passione non si era mai tramutata in un progetto serio e stimolante… Ad inizio 2006 Stefano e Marco ebbero l’idea di provare con gli Strokes, un idea tutto sommato niente male, il gruppo piaceva moltissimo a tutti e decidemmo entusiasti di accettare, anche se c’erano da valutare i pro e i contro: l’enorme difficoltà iniziale nell’imparare le canzoni e le nostre capacità non proprio esaltanti di musicisti avrebbero richiesto un tempo abbastanza lungo per consolidare un repertorio live di buona fattura; inoltre c’era l’incognita del cantante… Difatti trovare, perlomeno dalle nostre parti, un ragazzo intenzionato a cantare canzoni non molto popolari come quelle degli Strokes e con il talento alla Julian Casablancas si prospettava un impresa dall’esito negativo al 99%… Il buon Matteo però, tramite stretti legami familiari, portò da noi un bel giorno Alessandro… Era l’estate del 2006, venne a sentire le nostre prove e rimase favorevolmente impressionato; per fortuna, infatti, nei mesi precedenti eravamo riusciti ad imparare parecchie canzoni, avevamo trovato un buon sound, l’affiatamento tra di noi era cresciuto notevolmente, eravamo una vera band! Adesso ci toccava la prova del nove… Alessandro come sarà? Alla prima prova cominciammo con Hearth In A Cage, pensai subito “Oh Dio ha scelto la canzone più facile… mmm… non ci porterà da nessuna parte”; devo ammettere infatti, che la nostra prima impressione non fu delle migliori… Quando però si propose di cantare Barely Legal e Last Nite rimasi folgorato dall’incredibile grinta che aveva! Dalla pronuncia perfetta! Dall’incredibile somiglianza che aveva la sua intonazione con quella di Jules… Io e Stefano ci guardammo e ci fu un occhiata di approvazione. Alex era destinato a diventare uno di noi! Dopo mesi e mesi di prove che non portavano da nessuna parte cominciava però a crescere un po’ di malcontento all’interno della band… Avevamo le canzoni e soprattutto avevamo piena coscienza dei nostri mezzi, ma qualcosa ancora ci spaventava… Niente nome, niente demo, tante piccole-grandi incomprensioni… Sembrava che il nostro progetto dovesse fermarsi e invece, come nelle migliori favole dei fratelli Grimm, il lieto fine: una demo registrata contro tutto e tutti, un nome già nell’aria scelto definitivamente dopo la rinnovata fiducia in noi stessi portata dalle tanto attese registrazioni… Un clima di euforia che tarderà a fermarsi… I THE SOCKS SONO ARRIVATI E NON HANNO NESSUNA INTENZIONE DI ANDARSENE!
Who writes is Davide, the bassist… at the beginning it was me, Stefano (guitar), Marco (guitar) and Matteo (drums). Although we played together for a very long time, our passion didn’t turn to a serious musical project… at the beginning of 2006 Stefano and Marco had the idea to try with The Strokes, a idea we liked so much because we all loved the band so we accepted the suggestion… but there was some pro and versus to consider: first of all the difficulties in learning the songs due to our modest musician’s abilities that necessitated a long time to improve a good live show; then there was the problem of the singer… in our town it was really hard to find a guy who knew The Strokes or able to sing like Julian Casablancas; our effort was going to be ended negatively at 99%… but Matteo, thanx to his family relationships, took to us Alessandro… it was summer 2006, he came to see our rehearsals and liked us too much… in fact, during the year, we learned a lot of songs, we found our right sound, the feeling between us developed a lot… we were a real band! But now it was the time to decide about our future… is Alessandro good enough? The first time he came to sing he decided to start with Heart In A Cage, I thought “oh no, it’s the easiest one… mmm… maybe he’s not the man for us…” in fact our first impression was not positive… but when he sang Barely Legal and Last Nite I was completely captured by his incredible grim, his perfect pronounces, his amazing affinity with Mr Casablancas… me and Stefano turned to look at ourselves and thought “IT’S HIM!” Alex was fated to be one of us! After months and months of rehearsals we found our style but something wrong was still in the air… no name, no demo, a lot of misunderstandings… we believed that our project was near to the end… but as in the best Grimm’s tales, our story has its happy end too! We recorded the demo, we finally found our name (that was already in the air but it was accepted only after the happiness due to the recording sessions). THE SOCKS ARE HERE AND THEY DON’T WANT TO STOP!
