Biography VJ Dizy Pixl
Inspired to provoke thought through imagery, VJ Dizy Pixl (Alie Lane, Denver CO) fuses everyday images with pop culture, current events and shock art to produce live interactive visual installations. With an inherent love of chaos through dark and gothic imagery, DizyPixl wants her presentations to offer open personal interpretation as well as to provide an intense backdrop to the genres of IDM, hip-hop, breakcore, goth/industrial and experimental electronic music.
The self-taught VJ—after getting her start with the Burning Man community—recalls her early inspirations of projection installations that centered around Japanese Horror, old 8mm experimental cinema, and avant garde filmmakers. Using samples as the basis of her work, she is driven to expose obscure imagery from the early expressionist Fritz Lang, later avant garde filmmakers Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, and Kenneth Anger, and is inspired by imagery from Chris Cunningham, Meat Beat Manifesto and Skinny Puppy. DizyPixl combines her background knowledge by designing her own screens and fusing them with short samples (matching the bpm’s of the given music), using hexagons, layering techniques to design the visual installations.
Dedicated to art, DizyPixl wants to move past the run-of-the-mill rave VJ and the standard “canned†visual presentations to produce a varied and unique experience that is both entertaining and complementary to the music. Recently she has done work for Venetian Snares and Otto von Schirach that has established this precedence.
