DJ Superix

About Me

After growing up as a kid in the 80's and quickly becoming addicted to hip-hop through the breakdance / electro scene in early 1983, Superix has been listening to the music ever since, seeing it go through every change possible and back again! From making early pause tape mixes in the mid to late eighties and breaking his fathers HI-Fi’s at an alarming rate, trying to perfect his scratching skills in the late eighties and early nineties, he started DJing more seriously in early 1996 when he was studying Graphic Design in Sheffield, blowing his entire student loan on DJing equipment and records. To quote a song title, "What's Next On The Menu?" well, it was usually something involving low budget Tesco Value food, but well worth the sacrifice!

Hooking up with other like minded individuals within the Sheffield club scene 1996/97, Danielson & Dee-Rock, Superix, then known simply as "DJ Rix” was recognized for his turntable mastery earning a residency at one of the UK's premier club nights, NYSUSHI, where he played alongside some of the greats such as; Afrika Bambaatta, Jazzy Jay, EPMD's DJ Scratch, DJ Noize, Kenny Dope Gonzalez, DJ Krush, The Scratch Perverts, Souls of Mischief, Skitz & Rodney P, Norman Jay, Goldie, Roni Size, DJ Yoda, Dan Greenpeace, 808 State, & Ugly Duckling to name but a few!

Fast forward to 2003 and several more thousand records later, Superix was gaining a reputation among his fellow DJ peers through several acclaimed mixtape releases, including two mixtape of the month honours in DJ Yoda's Hip Hop Connection Magazine column. Now based in London, he hooked up with like minded Spread Love DJ and legendary Fatlace Magazine & HHC writer Rob Breezy. They soon formed Southern Hospitality, and quickly gained a reputation for starting one of the hottest nights in town, "Crunk" alongside Tom Hickey at the now defunct, and sadly missed Electricity Showrooms bar in Hoxton. For 2 years they quite literally tore the roof of that MF!

In 2005, alongside HHC magazine editor Phillip Mlynar, Southern Hospitality began one of London’s most original and defiantly entertaining nights, Hip Hop Karaoke London. The first of its kind in the UK, they continue to pack out the Social Bar in central London every single month without fail, and in Summer 2007 Southern Hospitality & Hip Hop Karaoke took themselves to the festival circuit, and not just any festival, THE summers biggest and best, Glastonbury – success confirmed, with personal thanks coming from the organizers themselves.

The continued success of Southern Hospitality has led onto another residency at the Social bar, the eponymous "Southern hospitality" night, hosted by their almighty MC Kosher. Southern Hospitality now also host their own irreverent radio show, keeping the public up-to-date with all things hip-hop, playing the very latest and the very greatest records. As well, as cutting up the new releases, you can catch Superix dropping an exclusive throwback mix each and every show at www.brooklynradio.net That's correct, Southern Hospitality have their own radio show hosted in the home of hip hop itself, New York City! What’s next on the menu from Superix and the Southern Hospitality crew? Well, you’ll just have to watch this space!
