Kelly Clarkson...duh. She's just amazing. She can hit notes when she's sick that I can't even hit when I'm having that one really weird dream where I'm a German opera singer starring in a musical version of Hamlet when, since obviously I'm playing Hamlet, I go into my "to be or not to be" speech holding that stupid skull which somehow gets stuck on my head...but I'm rambling. The point is that Kelly Clarkson rocks my argyle tube socks. (Don't worry...I like other stuff as well...I'm ver-sit-tile).
*Whistle* "I'm singing in the rain. Just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling. I'm happy again." So, um, I'm not sure if you've figured this out yet but my all time favorite movie is "Singing In The Rain". I pretty much love anything with Debbie Reynolds in it. In fact, I'm still harboring my childhood dream of becoming her. I also love Esther Williams, Ginger Rogers (those three are my main girls)...Myrna Loy, Rosalind Russell, Clara Bow, Tyrone Power, Van Johnson, Joel McCrea, Doris Day...Get the picture?
Do favorite T.V. shows still count if they're off the air? 'Cause I gotta tell ya, nothing beats Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sunset Beach for me (Don't make fun...I know ya'll's life is way crazier than any soap writer could come up with). Though I do have a new fascination with Instant Star 'cause I just got The N (but I hear that may not be coming back for another season either).
So I've recenetly discovered that I tend to lean towards female authors who write more about characters than events. My favorites are Jane Austen (of the classic romance Pride and Prejudice and the often overlooked but equally endearing Persuasion), Virginia Wolf (who made me feel sympathy without pity for Mrs. Dalloway) and Joanne Harris (Five Quarters of the Orange was simply brilliant). And I absolutley could not exist without Edna St. Vincent Millay's poetry (which has broken my heart better than any boy and then mended it in places even chocolate could not reach).
Okay, SERIOUS alert: I have the utmost respect and gratitude for our service women/men and their families. It is a thankless job, especially these days, and I cannot fill this space without thinking of them. WHEW! That's over. I absolutely admire right down to my toenails and up to my eyelashes: Anita DeFrantz, Esther Williams, Wonder Woman and Anne Shirley (I know the last two are fictional but that shouldn't belittle Wonder Woman's ability to kick Nazi ass or Anne Shirley's unwavering optimism).
