With her acceptance to Johnson C. Smith University, a Historically Black College in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was anticipating great things as a freshman in 2004. During her time in college Brandi joined the University Concert Choir and joined a group of three singers and they became True Divine. “With the Concert Choir my voice developed so much,†recalls Brandi. “I was taking voice lessons, and singing up and down the east coast touring.†True Divine also was a successful gospel group that aided in Brandi’s musical development as well. With each step her ambition grew overwhelmingly.
“I first realized I was ready to go in a different direction when my love for music and singing seemed to be much stronger than those around me†stated Brandi. “I always wanted to sing and I wanted to sing in a way that people could relate whatever their situation was.†Nervous to begin singing music other that gospel Brandi hesitated but knew she had to follow her dreams. Brandi’s expression of feeling and emotion came from her beginnings in gospel and soon she teamed her roots up with her future and became “Brandi Marie.†She has performed up and down the east coast promoting herself and her popular music style. Brandi Marie has opened for rap artist “Pliesâ€, featured in many venues and traveled internationally singing.
“People would always say I sounded white when I sang gospel music but now I’m using that and putting it in my music and creating this unique style.†Now she is combining her strong voice, her classical training, her gospel roots, and creatively energetic personality to make songs that grab your ear the moment you hear her.
