I'd like to meet:
People that aren't full of sh*t and therefore full of themselves.BTW, if you're going to try to request me as a friend, then perhaps you might consider WRITING me a message and talking to me? I mean, I'm not on myspace to see how many fake friends I can get. So unless you think we have something in common or are truly interested in me, then don't bother.
Music:
"I'm a little bit country, and I'm a little bit rock and roll..." No really, there isn't a genre out there in which I don't at least like a few songs. I try to stay open minded about music b/c I really do believe it's a universal language... there's a song that speaks to me no matter what the mood. Roberta Flack, Dixie Chics, Nina Simone, Luther Vandrous, Eric Clapton, Indigo Girls, Tori Amos, Garth Brooks, Tribe Called Quest, Janet Jackson, Sade, PRINCE!!, John Coltrane, Bob Marley, Beethoven, Buena Vista Social Club, the musicans I've befriended on myspace... Hell, it's easier to say what I DON'T like: biters and posers, most modern rap and pop, boy bands, groups that peddle their NOISE as music/art...well, I guess this list could get long too, but it's easier than the previous.
Movies:
I can't stop loving Dirty Dancing (sick, I know). Practical Magic, My Best Friend's Wedding, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Monty Python and more.
Television:
I don't watch tv much, but there are a few exceptional shows. Lost, Guiding Light (sorry it's been a part of me since before I was born), Friends and that's about it I guess. What ever happened to Fraggle Rock, GOOD Saturday morning cartoons, sit-coms like the Cosby Show and such?
Books:
The Lorax by Dr. Suess, Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice (probably in that order). I also rather enjoy thesauruses (what's the plural of thesaurus?), Shakespeare, The Bible, Writing Down the Bones, , The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Women Who Run with the Wolves, The Handmaid's Tale, ASSATA!!, Momma Day, Orlando, The Purpose Driven Life, The Scarlet Letter, book by Shel Silverstein, The Great Gatsby, books on the things I'm interested in (i.e. natural living, cookbooks, religion and African/AfAm history), and well...too many to remember/put here.
Heroes:
My Sister!! And Allma T.P. Lee, Nannie Mae Pinnix, Emma Thomas, and my long line of amazing women. My Daddy- the one who no man may ever live up to be as great as.
