I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Niva Dorell’s career officially took off when her USC thesis film KINGS won the Showtime Black Filmmakers Grant. Her second film MILK AND HONEY was produced for Showtime, where it aired for over a year. She directed the UPN 2-hour movie WHAT ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS, starring Keisha Knight Pulliam and Louis Gossett, Jr. (Ms. Pulliam received a NAACP Image Award nomination for her performance). Most recently, Niva “shadowed” on an episode of the FOX/CBS TV show THE UNIT (David Mamet – EP). Niva’s most recent directorial effort is SKID ROW, a feature documentary about LA’s Skid Row area featuring Pras Michel from The Fugees living undercover as a homeless person. SKID ROW has just been sold to Screen Media, and will be released theatrically on August 24, 2007. Also a theater director, Niva directed Frank McGuiness’ award-winning play SOMEONE WHO’LL WATCH OVER ME for the Greenway Court Theater in Los Angeles, and is a founding member of LA. Artists Theater Company. She is currently directing a hip-hop inspired production of ROMEO AND JULIET set in East LA which highlights the current gang rivalry between Latinos and Blacks.
