About Me

Dimitris Mitropanos was born in Trikala (Thessalia), Greece in April 1948. He lived in this city until his sixteen years. Very early, in 1964, he begins his singing course next to George Zampetas. George Zampetas stood more than a teacher next to the, still teenager, student and singer, supporting him not only to his first artistic steps, but also in the start of his life. A milestone year for Dimitris Mitropanos is 1966, when he meets for the first time with Mikis Theodorakis, who calls him to interpret pieces from “Romiosini” (“Greek Nation”) and “Axion Esti” (“Honorable Is”), in a series of concerts in Greece and Cyprus. In 1967 he records his first single album (45 vinyl disc) with two songs of George Zampetas, and a series from singles that soon become hits, follow. The second milestone in Dimitris Mitropanos’ course is 1972, the year that “Agios Fevrouarios” (“Saint February”) was released, composed by Dimos Moutsis and lyrics by Manos Eleutheriou, a piece of work that is now considered one of the classics of the Greek discography. Shortly after, there is the release of “O Dromos gia ta Kythira” (“The Road to Kythira island”) of George Katsaros, “Ta Sinaksaria” (“The Hagiographies”) of George Hatzinasios and in turn, the co operations with Spiros Papavasileiou and Takis Mousafiris which give great folk music hits. During his age-long course in the Greek music scene, Dimitris Mitropanos rises to its ideal vocal representative, interpreting with a unique way the songs that were born through the cooperation with many of the most important Greek composers, like Mikis Theodorakis, Apostolos Kaldaras, Dimos Moutsis, George Zampetas, Stauros Kougioumtzis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Giannis Spanos etc. His cooperation with Marios Tokas and Filippos Grapsas gave birth to two albums with great success and a lot of beloved songs, while the amazingly popular cooperation with Thanos Mikroutsikos “Stou Aiona tin Paragka” (“To the Century’s Barrack”) in lyrics by Alkis Alkaios, Kostas Lachas, Lina Nikolakopoulou and George Kakoulidis, gives the contemporary spot of the modern Greek song, but also records the quality of the interpretation of a great singer.
