Born April 15th,1985 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Justin Duan Gomez-Smith developed his love for music an early age. Growing up to a mother and a step-father who worked day-in and day-out to provide a safe and secure household for Justin and two other siblings, later to be added by one. “we had to grow up fast, and raise each other" Justin proclaims as he was taught the politics of being a black man in America by his mother who was one of the founders of the Grand Rapids movement "Black Awareness". As a child with no Positive Black Role Model, Justin looked up to rappers Tupac, and Ice Cube as well as Movie-Stars in Hood Movies.
He had a rough childhood being of below average height, a short-fuse and a smart mouth, it wasn’t long before he was kicked out of a number of Schools, Skating Rinks and Local teen clubs all around the city of Grand Rapids. In High School Justin was active in both Wrestling and Track-n-Field,as well as a member of local street crew "The Playboyz". One thing the Playboyz were noted for was making diss tracks about local street gangs and High School Preps who forgot where they had come from.†IT WAS FUNNY TO US ,WE PICKED ON EVERYONE AND FAUGHT AT ANY CHANCE WE COULD".
Justin's life began to change after he graduated from High School in 2003.After which he began working an hanging out at all the local clubs and bars,LiL J became known for his quick temper, high alcohol consumption, and his group of clubbing buddies who all looked like NFL players It wasn’t long before Justin was arrested for his first time at the age of 21 years old, for an unarmed robbery he didn’t commit but was with the person at the time of the incident. Living by the code of the streets by "Never Snitching", He served 227 days in the local county jail. After a few months of being incarcerated, Justin began writing daily. Upon release Justin enrolled in College and released 3 songs that he had written, Two that are in heavy rotation at local clubs, Azucar, Julian’s 2,Tequila,and The Kentwood Bistro, as well as Ferris State and Grand Valley parties. Lil J is known to most as "The King of the Club"
Justin currently under the management of his Brother, and Northwood University Graduate, Ryan Sanquil Roberts. He is also an active member of the Grand Rapids Hip-Hop Coalition as well as 1140jamz radio program "The Maddog Show" which airs every Saturday from 3-5pm.To date LiL J Has over 30 performances under his belt and is known all across West Michigan. With a highly anticipated album release "Mr. Most Known", which is due to hit the streets early 2010,Justin as positioned himself to make major moves in the years to come...
