What's up everyone, I'm Aaron. I'm a competitive swimmer from Irvine, Calif. training for the summer 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The backstroke is my favorite.
Growing up along the Southern California coast, I witnessed tons of examples of ocean destruction. One summer officials even had to close down a stretch of my favorite beach because it was too dirty and dangerous to swim in!
Our environmental problems are the result of short-sightedness, and the solution is for people to realize that our actions today have long-term implications.
I can't sit back and watch our planet's largest ecosystem become a vapid wasteland, which is why I recently teamed up with Oceana - the largest international group focused 100 percent on ocean protection.
With Oceana 's help, I've created a site called "Race for the Oceans," a forum that will allow swimmers and swimming fans to dive into ocean conservation. I'm asking all of you to check out the site and join me as I begin the toughest race of my life: the race for the oceans !
