I am here for Friends

About Me

I've lived, and worked, most of my life in east and central London and have never had much desire to live anywhere else.I've been with my wife for 24 years and can't imagine being with anyone else.Plus two grown-up stepkids who have a better relationship with me than their real father.According to my wife, I've never quite grown up, which is fine by her.I've been told I have a strange sense of humour;I dunno, it makes perfect sense to me!One belief I have is that rights and responsibilities are two sides of the same coin;if you want one, you should acknowledge the other. Anything else is dodgy ethics.Things that I like; foggy mornings, there is something wonderfully eerie about walking through the fog. Cats; kept the mad little furballs for half my life, we have two at the moment (Willow & Loki). And now also a dog (Saffy) acquired from Battersea Dogs Home.Things I don't like:People who think ignorance is some kind of virtue. People who use, or abuse, religion for furthering a political agenda.Failings:When someone asks me a question,I can be too verbose in my answers, too much information. It isn't that I'm trying to impress people, I just hate ignorance and being misunderstood.I can sometimes be a little detached from reality, absent-minded scientist type.

You're a Jackalope!
A huge fan of the Old West and its mythology, you've often wished you'd been born 150 years earlier. You'll challenge almost anyone to a race, and usually go so quickly that your opponent can't even see you. Someday, there will be stories about you, perhaps even legends, and you'll just wrinkle your nose knowingly at what's been said. Your mission is to walk swiftly and carry big sticks.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who is curious about life, people, the universe and is open-minded enough to realise they don't have all the answers (I know I don't).No-one who thinks that their race, religion, gender or political beliefs make them superior to anyone else.No-one who takes political correctness to absurd extremes (like most local governments in the UK it seems). If you send a message or comment to me I will always reply within a couple of days.

My Blog

That was the week that was.....

I read my daily newspaper cover to cover. Some items I just skim over, others I read and re-read just to be sure. And no, I don't believe that everything I read is true. You have to learn to tell the ...

The Orient Express

Ever since she was 20, my wife has wanted to travel on the Orient Express but was never able to afford it or was too busy bringing up a family. Then again, which Orient Express? There have been severa...

Poppies

For as long as I can remember, I've always worn a poppy for Remembrance Day. One of my earliest memories is of watching a Remembrance Day parade at our local church with my grandfather Fred when I wa...

Cartoon Time

So, yesterday morning (Saturday), I wander over to the radio, switch it onto Classic FM and what do I hear? 'The Ride of the Valkyries'. What do I think of? Wagner's classic opera cycle? No. That sequ...

How to be an Evil Cultist

After reading the post on Zen by Jules, I recalled this piece which I found on the web, and tucked away in my files; it's based on the famous Evil Overlord list by Peter Anspach but is much shor...

The Man with Two Hearts

As you may notice from my page, if you look closely, I am something of a fan of 'Doctor Who'. Well, when I say fan, I actually mean frothing-at-the-mouth TARDIS addict! I began watching the series in ...

A Classic senior moment

A very self-important college freshman attending a recent football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to under...

Red ghosts

Urban foxes. I hear them far more often than I see them. Even when I do see them it's usually little more than a fast-moving ghost in the corner of my eye. The yellow sodium street lights on our estat...

The world is getting weirder!

I've always had a fascination for strange events, whether mysterious, amusing or both. There is a website called 'News of the Weird' which specialises in gathering these oddball news events and publis...

Stating the blindingly obvious!!

Either our government officials are getting stupider or they think we are! I read an article in the newspaper yesterday about the increasing number of pointless signs and notices put up. Here's a...
