WE HAVE RISEN FROM THE ASHES!
Heartland Communities is a Nonprofit based in Fort Wayne, Indiana - U.S. that works in sustainability in the environment and community. Within our Federal designation we can also create, develop, and umbrella other Nonprofits or Cooperatives that work with in those guidelines. Which is pretty broad, many programs and projects can be made within sustainability in the environment and community. In sustainability it could be something that works towards economic sustainability, non-violence, diversity, helping people that are considered "at risk," the possibilities are endless. So what keeps the choas down and work focused is we are structured as a worker-cooperative. The members who do the work are called "Stewards," and all Stewards have an equal vote and ownership in their endeavors and the organization. So if people are around to bond for a common goal and do the work, then anything is possible.
So we have started this myspace and a new yahoo group to explore possibilities in sustainable living and right livelihood. This site and e-group is intended to be a forum within which interested folks can plan and participate in community. We want to create and live in a new paradigm. We want to collectively envision a new way of operating in our work life and community life that expresses our deepest values. We want to cooperate to accomplish something that none of us can do alone. We will no longer wait around for our governments or our corporations or our social organizations or our scientists to do it for us. The time is now.
The Organizational Cornerstones and By-Laws which can be read on the blogs, are about cooperation and sustainable living. The founders intended to work toward an intentional community / eco village, and to practice right livelihood. Just about any project that promotes sustainability in any way could be done under the auspices of the organization. It is set up to spin off other for-profit and non-profit ventures that are worker-owned. What we do with it at this point is wide open. So start dreaming!
When you are in doubt, be still, and wait. When doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward in courage.

If you want to build a ship,
don't drum up people together to collect wood
and don't assign them tasks and work,
but rather teach them to long for the
endless immensity of the sea.
