About Me

What can I say about myself? This business of publishing personal information on the Web makes me feel just a bit exposed but I like the general concept as a way to communicate, so here goes ...I have two children all grown up and married and four grandchildren. For now, at least, we all live close enough to visit frequently. My husband and best friend of 34 years died February 2006 so I'm learning to cope with the idea of being a widow. That wasn't something I'd ever really planned for but you take what life hands out.
I work at a small weekly newspaper. What I mostly do there at present is answer the phone, take in ads for the Classified section and type or format legal notices, social announcements and obituaries to get them ready to be used on the pages. Sort of a combination traffic controller/cashier -- but I do it with a smile.Brief background: I was born in western Kansas, lived in Kansas City, Kan., first grade through eighth, moved to western Nebraska where I graduated from Sidney High School then moved to Orange County, Calif., where I met my husband and stayed until 1984. That's when we moved to Ridgecrest, Calif., in the Mojave Desert, and opened our own business, a truck and auto repair shop, that we operated until 1999. Our last big move was back here to tornado country where I live now. And it's humid, too!

Letting go

Setting up pictures on my MySpace page has been good for me. Going through our old pictures to choose a few to post that represent my life has been a bittersweet trip down memory lane. But it's been...
