Flinch originally formed in early 2002 with their original singer Ryan Phelan (Sports Tonight, and later ESPN Anchor Man and Bachelor of the Year). Due to Ryan's television career commitments he was forced to leave the band and left Flinch swingin in the breeze with a string of gigs booked and no singer. With less than a week before the possible cancellation of their shows, the band recruited session singer and sound engineer Nikk Carmichael to fill the position to get them through the first few shows until they could find a permanent replacement. After two rehearsals and a gig at a local venue, Carmichael fell in love with the outfit and decided to stay on in the position permanently. The band continued on and played many local shows on the Northern Beaches throughout 2004 and even toured rural NSW which saw the band going as far as Nymagee to play at the Nymagee Outbak Music Festival. After returning to Sydney, Flinch locked themselves into the recording of a full length album at Northern Beaches recording studio, Continuumusic where they tracked and mixed ten songs (plus added a live, bootleg version of their song "Nicht Cheesun").Unfortunately, the album was never released. The band called it a day in 2005 due to drummer Steve's work commitments sending him to the other side of the globe.Depressed and destitute, the remaining members walked away from Flinch never to speak of it again. Guitarist Campbell Button switched to bass and joined The Gene Maynard Band, Carmichael went on to sing for a corporate jazz band known as Groove Casino and Ferris put his bass on ebay and didn't play again...... Until now. That's right! Flinch has returned. Stronger, faster, older than before. It has been decided after a several year break that it's never to late to reserect the rock.Still in the early stages of rehearsing the rust off their material and, hopefully writing some new songs, Flinch will be returning to the scene for a one night only performance (at least that's all that has been agreed upon so far) and the possible re-recording of the album. In the words of singer Nikk Carmichael "I don't know. Partly cause it's just fun to record and partly cause we think we can do it a lot better than we did then. oh, and we need to fugg those stupid trumpet tracks off that I did on 'Rain' and 'Slap and Tickle'."So here's a taste of Flinch (or Flinch Australia as it's not to be confused with Flinch in Finland).
