Terry started DJ’ing in early 1997 and has been running various nights in Omagh (N.Ireland) since late 1997. Around that time he co-promoted (with G-Roc) a house night called Full-On, with guests including some of the top Irish house DJs of the time (Colin Bass, Paul P & Eamon Beagon) . From 1997 to 2000 he also ran a series of all-nighters in the infamous Attic Bar as well as the chaotic Mickey Disco’s party’s. In September 2000, he launched a Techno/Electro night called Bad Taste Sessions, became resident at Sonic Revolution in Liverpool and won a north west England DJ competition which resulted in performing live on Steve Shiels (voodoo) radio show The Voodoo Hours on Liverpool’s Juice FM.
Bad Taste Sessions was established to act as an escape from the plethora of mainstream culture that attempts to bombard everyday society. It constantly strives to promote an underground resistance that seeks and destroys musical limitations and distorts every aspect of the mainstream culture we have become accustomed to. Its principal ethos evolves around the promotion of an underground music scene that rejects commercialism and the routine nature of the corporate record industry in favour of a movement that views itself as a trendsetter and not a follower. It was a reaction against the monotony of a music scene driven by die-hard Ibiza veterans, money-grabbing, pretentious club promoters and cheesy trance compilations. Primarily a techno and electro night that showcased some of the best unknown and under appreciated talent around, Bad Taste Sessions provided a sanctuary from the trance epidemic that was beginning to take over the world as well as the charts. And so, with an appearance from Alan Simms (Shine, Belfast), Bad Taste Sessions was born and became the epitome of all things hard and nasty!
Bad Taste Sessions has since played host to the likes of Claude Young (Deta, Detroit), Mr C (The End, London), Jamie Bissmire (Space DJz), Phil Kieran (Shine, Bugged Out), Jamie Ball (Turning Point, Rxxistance - Spain), Colin Shields (Evolution, Belfast), as well as hosting the Voodoo Records tour with long running Voodoo resident Steve Shiels.
Terrys diverse technical talents have produced a range of distinctive sounds varying from tribal grooves to pounding techno and booty shakin’ electro punk. Terry was also part of Mis-Spent Youth, a collaborative effort between Terry and Full On's G-Roc to present a 4 deck, 2 mixer extravaganza. In 2002 Terry teamed up with Voodoo's Steve Shiels to host Liverpool's newest techno night The Narcotic Suite. In 2003 Terry started a new residency at monthly techno event Vortex.
Terry has been invited to play at various venues throughout Northern Ireland and Liverpool including, Deep Fried Funk (Derry), where he played before Umek, Voodoo (Liverpool), Alkimee (Liverpool), the Sick Lizard (Liverpool), Evolution (Belfast), Doynk (Belfast), Electric City (Dublin), Primal (Bangor), Relapse (Bangor) and twice at Belfast’s Digital T festival.
In 2005 Terry returned to Omagh where he keeps himself busy promoting Bad Taste Sessions, as well as himself. Since returning, he has also put his efforts into a new project, Filth, a new venue, a new sound, a new scene. Filth adopts a no muck music, no poser, no pouting policy in favour of a friendly crowd, a sweaty excitable dance floor and a mixture of indie, rock, punk, underground sounds and the best in new bands. www.myspace.com/btsfilth
