born in Haifa (1968) working as a teacher,
composer and jazz performer.Studied composition at the Academy of Music in
Jerusalem (BMus) and at Bar-Ilan University
(MA, Phd). Among his teachers were Slava
Ganelin, Prof. Gideon Lewensohn and
Prof. Betty Olivero.Shai compositional activities range from music for conventional instruments to works
for live or taped electro-acoustic performance, and have been performed and
broadcast in Israel and in international festivals.
Recent works include: "Echoes of Eternity" Fantasia for violin solo and orchestra (2006) performed by the SNU Symphony Orchestra, Conductor Seoung-Lim Kim, Violin Solo Seyoung Lee, Asian-Pacific Contemporary Music Festival in Korea (2009), "DSCH" - for chamber orchestra (2006) for the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble. "Hkafil"- commissioned by the Israel Composers League (ICL), premiere in Jerusalem music center (2005). “Enchanted Morning†- concerto for flute, harp, perc and string orchestra based on Ravi Shankar Raga "Todi" commissioned by Israel major philharmonic flute player and premiered in Romania (2005). "Collective Memory" - commissioned by the Israel philharmonic Arab Jewish ensembles, Tempus Fugit international biennial contemporary music premiere in Jerusalem (2004) and preformed many times around the world.
“Association†- commissioned by Asian Music Festival premiered in Tokyo Japan (2003).
From 2003 he is a lecturer in the Bar-Ilan University in the music departments and also
involve in a range of educational activities
