--- Band Bio ---
Well basically Three Ton Tare likes to play music. We got together not in the hopes of being famous or making big money (though sure, that'd be nice) but just to have fun and play music in room 201 together. Over time we've gotten to know each others musical styles better and we're really having fun playing all different types of music.
The line-up of the original band consisted of Muhamed on bass and Ashwin on drums, but with Michael on guitar. This group wasn't really gelling together because we weren't all in the same year... when you're young it makes a big difference, believe me. Basically, it fizzled out due to lack of interest and excessive outside control.
Three Ton Tare as we know it now came to be in the year after that, with guitarist Ivan striding in to join the already locked-in sounds of the rhythm section, frequently playing lunchtimes, playing old stuff and making some new stuff - all the while jamming extensively. Unnamed for about three years (as are all of our original songs... we really can't do that to them yet), the name, if you're wondering, comes from the vague idea that "signposts make cool names". So yeah, like those roads where the trucks can't be over three tonnes.... Get the picture now... yeah great.
We're also a part of the 5/6 piece jazz band randomly called the "dimished fifths", consisting of us, a sax, a trumpet, and recently a trombone, who play a lot of standards and are keen on improvisation. Last year we landed a gig at the opera house (which you should be able to see on the site) which was pretty FREAKIN AWESOME! Other gigs we've played as three ton tare include the surry hills festival and bunnings warehouse (not much of a gig per se... but still a gig.)
So we hope you enjoy our music and the experience that is three ton tare. If you want to contact us for any reason, to talk or hire us or whatever, just send us an email at [email protected].
End plug.
