About Me

music layout powered by HOT FreeLayouts.com / MyHotCommentsThe first memory I recall is wanting to play guitar. I remember seeing a band, "The Meyers Family" when I was about 4 years old and knew right then what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My first guitar came shortly after. My Dad would take me to have the strings replaced and have it tuned but we didn't know anyone that could teach me how to play. We moved around a lot so I just pretended that I could play and I had to wait until I was 15 to actually learn to play my guitar. At that point, we had settled in a little town in Georgia called Maysville. I was lucky enough to meet the person who would be my closest friend for many years, Jeff Kent. He played guitar, drums and bass and was the drummer for a small local band. Jeff taught me how to play on a harmony electric and I picked up on the drums by watching Jeff play. I actually tied my fingers together with string to be able to bar the correct cords for the first song I learned, "Smoke On The Water". Jeff let me tag along to his band practices and within a year I was their drummer. We named the band, "Six Gun", and played together for about 4 years. "Six Gun" made money playing all over rural Georgia.Next, I played drums for a country band, "Dale and The White Line Band". We played mostly weekends all over Georgia. We played just about any and ever rinky-dink establishment you can imagine. That lasted for a couple of years until the band dissolved because the terminal illness of our guitar player.Through a jam session, I met a guy who could sing, Dale Little. We bacame good friends. We answered an add in the paper looking for a drummer and a front man and ended up joining a band called, "Spike". For a couple of years and through several name changes, we played heavy metal eighties music all over the State of Georgia. The most memorable place being "The Whipping Post" in Macon, Georgia.Dale Little and I knew some guys from Athens, Georgia that we jammed with from time to time. Junior Adams played guitar and Johnny Epps played bass. We sort of cemented a band together but never played out.I met my wife and we ended up in Atlanta where I played with a band called, "Smokin Guns". We played classic rock covers and won a battle of the bands in Athens, Georgia. During this time, I started to write my own songs and wanted to do more than play other people's music. When my wife and I re-located back to Athens, the old band, "Soulshaker" just picked up where we left off but we took it more serious this time. We began to write and record an album but never released it. We played local gigs for years and drifted apart and back together many times because everyone had other jobs to support their families.Eventually I put together the equipment to record from my home and decided to concentrate my efforts on my own music. I have a home studio and I've been spending my time writing new songs and then laying down each track separately. First I compose and play each instrument until all parts have been filled in for each song. When this is done, I come back and lay down the vocal tracks and mix everthing at the end.Once, I attended a song writers convention in Atlanta and gave copies of my material to a few people in the industry but no record contract yet. I have learned a lot from writing and recording all of my own material and the process is not so easy. I hope that you enjoy the results. If you hear anything from "Obscurity" that you'd like to record, please let me know.
