About Me

E-mail: [email protected]

“Through my job, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many talented artists. However, Jessica’s music is genuinely at a caliber that I rarely come across in the Canadian music scene. She’s already done a great job at making an impact within the music industry and is definitely on the right track to a promising, global career. Jessica’s music is undeniable. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of her songs and the way she delivers them to her audience.” - Ivan Berry Managing Partner, Tanjola - Music Publishing & Artist Management

Jessica Rose brings a sultry blues style to her music with songs that expose her raw emotions about life itself. From tumultuous relationships, to sensuality, freedom and love, her upcoming album titled “Look at My Life” due out fall 2009, is a bold and real expression of her life’s experiences to date. She draws inspiration from musical influences, which include the likes of Billie Holiday, Saidah Baba Talibah, Meshell Ndegeocello, Etta James and Sam Cooke.

Jessica started singing and performing when she was 12 years old at her sister’s wedding in her hometown of Washago, Ontario. But it was her first job, singing Whitney Houston covers at a local resort that gave her a taste of being on stage, and she was hooked. Her father, a calypso musician from the Bahamas, ensured Jessica Rose was surrounded by music, and her mother encouraged and inspired Jessica Rose to create her own.

It was not until high school that Jessica Rose really started to develop her own sense of style, both vocally and musically. She met a jazz/blues musician, Bruce (Suds) Sutherland, who became her music teacher and mentor and introduced her to jazz in a way that very few musicians could have: with patience. After high school, Jessica Rose enrolled at the Harris Institute for the Arts, where she learned about the music business in the Recording Arts Management program. Not only did she learn the ins and outs of the business, but she also met other talented musicians, who later became part of the RoseSoul band.

The Toronto based RoseSoul band consists of Jessica Rose (vocals) Marc Teghrarian (bass) Noel DiTosto (guitar) Graydon James (drums) and Bosmat Yahel (keys). It is a collection of musicians from different genres coming together to create soul and blues.

As a side project, Jessica Rose has recorded a self-titled jazz standards EP, covering classics including Cry me a River, How Insensitive and ‘S Wonderful. The album has been distributed and is available on iTunes and Amazon. This project gave Jessica Rose the opportunity to expand her vocal capabilities, deepening her understanding and appreciation for jazz music.

There’s a famous quote I live by: “A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a person perfected without trials.” I believe in this because even with the bad, there’s so much good, and if you just focus on the good, no one can hold you down.” - Jessica Rose
