Set in west London, ‘Moped’ is seen through the eyes of two sixteen year olds Richard and Clifford whose lives revolve around a council estate. By chance, a stolen moped finds its way in to their hands and they seize this chance to take a trip with the moped away from the estate. But the trip is abruptly brought to an end, as the moped suddenly breaks down and they are left stranded in a remote field. Left to their own devices, Richard and Clifford decide to push the moped the rest of the way home through the field. During the journey home they encounter a stranger who feels it’s the right time for him to unleash his long awaited frustration and true feelings about the youth of today.
I want ‘Moped’ to center on the social divisions and tensions that exist between the realms of adolescence and the grown up world of the adult that endures an uneasy coexistence on a council estate. I also want to focus on the man, who feels tired of the regime that has been imposed on the estate by the youth that live there.
