About Me

Nélida Béjar is a spanish/german composer living in France.


Bio:

Born in Munich 1979, she moved to Bochum at the age of 4 and two years later to Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga (Spain). Started making music (metallophone, toy-keyboard, then piano, writing little pieces).

Back to Munich at the age of 13, she begun playing piano more seriously. She completed general music studies at the Musikhochschule in Munich (music theory, piano, violin, conducting) and composition with Wilfried Hiller at the RSK. She has written pieces for the Gasteig Foundation, the vocal ensemble Die Singphoniker , the DoArte Foundation , Irmgard Gorzawski , the ensemble De Ereprijs , the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts , the Ensemble Zeitsprung .

2004 she was awarded a grant for a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Collaboration with visual artist Vassilis Salpistis for the video "faber-castell".

2005 she moved to Paris, where she took classes with Philippe Leroux, Allain Gaussin and Jean-Luc Hervé.

She participated at the Young Composers Meeting 2006 (with Donnacha Dennehy, Richard Ayres, Sam Hayden, Martijn Padding), her piece was performed at the Gaudeamus Music Festival in Amsterdam in the same year.

In 2006 she started postgraduate studies in music composition at the Trinity College in Dublin with Donnacha Dennehy .

2007 she was awarded a grant for a residency at Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg (Germany). She played the piano in the dance project “Did I make you up” ( Catapult Dance , choreography: Rebecca Walter, music: Hugh O’Neill) in Dublin.

Having finished "in the sun wear black" for the wind octet of the Neues Kammerorchester Bamberg , she is now working on a new piece for live processed instruments (using pd), and on the Ph.D. in music composition in Dublin.

She is comissioned to write the music for the European Theatre Project “Exodus” (coming up in May in Malta, Catania, Vienna, Munich and Warsaw).

about BRENTS

BRENTS was made for the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. The title comes from the german words "brennt's" (does it burn). Although the original comission was for violin, zither, piano, soprano, verropho...
